How can I find out if my laptop has bluetooth?

My laptop is about 8 months old, and I think it originally came with bluetooth, but I may have deleted the whole program and service. I was trying to increase the battery life and I didn't think I'd need bluetooth ever. Now I need it.

So how do I find out if bluetooth works on my laptop? Is there a simple way? I don't even know the exact make of my laptop. Well it's an Acer Aspire One but there are a load of different types and versions....

    Thanks

Have a look at the sticker on the underside of your laptop to find out what type it is.Other than that look in the device manager for a device that's not working.

Aspire one usually has a small button located at the top of the left. Otherwise check the function keys for a bluetooth symbol.

Embarrassingly i know this as i similarly spent an hour searching the other halfs netbook to activate bluetooth :o

Look in the bios. It should be mentioned in there. Some laptops will actually have bluetooth buttons and lights, but no bluetooth is actually installed! Bios should tell you for sure.

How do you look in the bios? And also what is a bios? I'm a bit of a noob...

    assuming you are using windows
    Check
Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services

There should be one called Bluetooth Support Service

Check it's Status and Startup type.

If you want it started when the OS starts set it to automatic (right click and choose properties)

If you only want it to be started occasionally set the startup type to manual and when you want to use it navigate to Services via Control panel as above right click and choose start.

But is it possible to delete a service? I think I may have done that.

If you have checked Services and there is no BlueTooth Service then yes you could have possibly deleted it.

Check Control Panel -Administrative Tools - Computer Administration and click on Device Manager. see if the bluetooth device shows or if there are any devices with a yellow question mark next to them. The '?' indicates that there is a device on the machine but no driver.

If there is a Bluetooth device but can't access it then right click and uninstall it.

Windows will then try and reinstall it when it next boots.
