I think my shocks are going in my car(front wheels)..hearing a horrible creeking sound when i drive over bumps and stuff. was hoping it might just be due to change in weather (bit colder). but i doubt it. how big a job would it be to have them changed? could i do it myself (no experience). How much would replacement parts be?

Sounds like the bushings are gone, you can check the shocks by bouncing them and seeing it the movement continues after the upstroke.

Take it a mechanic for a quote and see.
If you don't have mechanical experience shocks aren't really the place to start.

Price less than 200 for a pair, may vary with brand etc. Then fitting on top.

If you hear the sound, that's most likely not coming from the shocks, but from other part of suspension (probably loose bushings, bolts, etc).
Shocks even if they are completely gone, they wouldn't really make any sound.

I vote for bushings too. I had 2000 primera 1.6 and it had same squeeking (quite annoying) noise when I go over speed bumps only. Problem was cracked bushings at top of suspension.

Never heard of suspension making noises, it's always links and bushings that are noisy, probable lubed them when you changed the shocks hence the quieter action, also a knackered shock can wreck bushings etc so probably not a bad idea to replace them too if you think they're gone or on the way.

I greased up the top mounts all right but the old dampers, well only one of them makes a high piched squeek when I open and close it and I dont see any damage on it.
