For reasons known only to sky i no longer have Sky TV ( still waiting 3 weeks later to hear from them as to why )

meantime I have now decided because of the appaling treatment and lack of explanation I need to get my TV elsewhere.

Looking at UPC I could only get the very basic didgital ( no digital + or HD )

To be honest atm we have all the FTA channels via the skybox, but no aerial so no RTE, and we miss Sky 1 and dicovery channels most.

Is upc any cop ? - just spoken to them and we could definately only get MMDS basic digital from them

and or what other options might we have ?

I hate Sky and I am happy enough with UPC.

However I am in a UPC cable area with HD phone and Broadband.

Your in an MMDS area I would go with Sky if I were you.

Hi Op . I was in the same situation. Sky no longer have insurance to climb up and fix my sky dish in the area that I live. I could go to a private sky technician but apparently in only two years my dish has rusted beyond repair so I'd need to pay for a new one and I've had so many sky breakdowns I just cant be bothered with them anymore.

I switched to UPC last week and got a HD digital plus box. So far I'm perfectly happy with it. I don't find the service lacking compared to sky at all. There are one or two small niggles that are annoying eg if you want to record from two channels at the same time you have to power off the upc box. That's only rarely an issue though. The interface isn't AS intuitive as Sky's but it's not too far behind. You get used to it very quickly. From someone who was up until recently a sky customer I can say honestly that I don't miss Sky now I have UPC.
Here's hoping I won't have jinxed myself now I've been so positive about it . :D

    Oh btw...
theres an offer for boards.ie customers atm where you get free installation and connection as well as a 50 euro voucher if you sign up via a link. There's a thread in the Bargain Alerts forum about it.
I got multiroom and initially I was told by upc that there'd be an 80 euro installation charge for this but I got it free with the boards offer. Its worth doing if you're planning to get UPC.
