Up on roof doing a pre-winter storms check, noticed a weak carrier on Ch 58. Anyone in the 3 Rock/Kippure area able to lock on it ? It's too weak here where I am, but signal strength is the same as mux on 54.

Well, it's still there, still at a decent strength here in Portaferry, perhaps 54 hasn't been nulled after all, maybe it's just running at a lower power than it was earlier in the year.

Same here in IOM. Blank carrier on 58.

So should we expect to see extra services sooner rather than later?

The carrier on Ch.58 seems to have disappeared for the moment, at least....

I am picking up RTE DTT on channel 48 from Maghera. Does anyone know what channel the second mux will be operating on from Maghera? A couple of weeks ago a new channel message came up my Panasonic mpeg4 tv. The tv stored the channel on 800 but when i did a manual scan it did not pick the channel up. The channel says no new service and is labelled TG4 with no program information. I was wondering was this new channel on the second mux. Thanks guys.

Yes, but as usual it went off again. Why does RTE broadcast on this channel for only brief intervals, as they must realise that this is the best way to go for Wicklow, Wexford and our Welsh neighbors and forget about using Channel 45.

I think the actual plan is to use 2 muxes. Eventually Channel 39 will be on full time but It will have different TV channels on it than those on Channel 45. Hopefully another channel other than Channel 45 free from interference will be selected as a long term fix.

Given they had over a year of pre-testing testing you do have to wonder. Kippure at startup in April 09 put a great signal into my neck of the woods, this then dropped down, from Nov 09 it was fairly constant until September this year, then dropped off again. What the point of a blank carrier at much higher power than the now launched trial is is anyones guess. 58 went off again this morning.
