I'm sure you guys get these questions all the time but i'd be grateful if you'd help. Anyway and i ve read a few thread this morning so here is the basic info:

Car Type is as above, its a 2005 model, diesel, coupe if that makes any odds.

Current Tyres: Contisport contact (225/45 R 17 91W - as wrote on tyre)

Looking for the same or something quite similar (need 4). Would rather spend money and get a good tyre rather than something cheap and useless - safety first and all that. Either in Dublin or internet based.

I've seen plenty of referals for camskill, if i buy online how much can i expect to be charged for fitting etc? Just so i can compare local v internet.

Also the current tyre seems to be a summer tyre, would i be better getting more an all year round tyre.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Kenny,

I have the same type of car and I have the Conti Sports fitted. I got them a few months ago and I find them quite good overall.

The Vredestein Ulrtrac Sessantas get good reviews too.

I have the same car man.

I got Vredestein tyres, and couldn't recommend them highly enough. They have a cool looking thread pattern, and are great in the wet.

I got them from Camskill and got them fitted for €40 (I think)

One is CENTO, the other SESSANTA

    http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Vredestein/Ultrac-Cento.htm £99.90 inc.VAT
    http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Vredestein/Ultrac-Sessanta.htm £103.00 inc.VAT

As you can see be this review, and others, Sessanta is best value. Out of these two.

ive been through most models of tyres pirell, continental, michelin, goodyear, dunlop, bridgestone and the ones i have found best by a mile especially in the wet is Goodyear Eagle F-1 Asymmetric and if they can handle a Bmw 645ci they could handle most things but make sure its the Eagle F-1 Asymmetric they are much better than the older V-thread pattern Eagle F-1 GSd3

or look here for reviews of others

Thanks guys, just one other thing would i be right in saying i need run flat? As dont have a spare wheel?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,219 ✭✭✭✭biko

    Do you have runflats now?
Runflats are different from normal tyres (stiffer sidewalls) and I suggest getting normal tyres instead. But next poster may object, there is much discussion on what's best.
Also the tyres suggested previously were normal tyres, runflats costs more.

You can use tyre goo instead of a spare wheel / your insurance probably has road assistance.

If you have conti tyres now then they will have SSR on the sidewalls if they are run flats.

You can't fit runflats to standard rims so make sure what ones you have.

On the point of your spare, the 3srs have a space saver under a plastic cover in the wheelwell, I've seen many people who didn't realise there was a wheel under the cover.

if you have run flats get rid of them the ride will be a lot more comfortable with normal tyres a LOT more comfortable you can get a kit from bmw that will take care of the spare wheel problem

this was true with the E46 model yes but not the newer E90

just realised the op had an e46 its very unlikely you have runflats these were only introduced on the E90 model on as said conti have SSR written on tyre if it is runflat bridgestone have RFT, the conti are ok but the goodyear are much better only the continental sport contact 5p compares

Got them from fastfit for around €450 fitted (and that included a 4 wheel alignment). That was a fairly competitive price when you factor in fitting and alignment.

The E46 did not come with run flats. There should be a spare wheel in the boot- lift up the carpet and it's under a plastic cover. Besides, a lot of people with the runflats on the E90 actually change them for standard tyres as they find the ride quality too harsh on bad roads. (There have been a few threads on the issue on run flat tyres on BMW).

Local guy suggested Hancook tyres for my next change.
Showed me a set off the rear of a BMW that had 30k on them.. Bald as a coot but if they had been changed at 25K that would be pretty decent miles
