Looking for a list of providers, sick of paying AIBs extortionate rates. What was the name of that Canadian brokerage that setup here again offering good prices?

    Thanks

TD Waterhouse were the canadian company who set up, although they dont offer all stocks i.e some OTC offerrings Davy also have a pretty good Online offering, as as far as I know they are the only company at the moment who offer Online Self-directed PRSA accounts which they recently launched. Commission is 25e min going to 15e after 20 trades according to their website. NIB have online account too, but would be much of a muchness with AIB in terms of fees.

    Hi Comordha,

I just moved to Keytrade recently. Find them very good so far.

Davy don't get you the best price, you don't know the exact price and their portfolio valuation is a day behind, if you're a trader stay away. 25e min trade

How don't you get the best price, and not know the exact price? Thanks

A few times i've gotten the higher side of the ask, I know by comparing trades and buy quotes to other's (live prices of course). I'm not sure the 'quote' is always the 'executed price' either. The exact price is only confirmed by postal letter. The portfolio evaluation isn't too precise, I'd like to see (when I can't remeber) if my X amount of shares were bought at 5.1p or 5.5p, not just '5p' and what the actual gain/loss is, it makes a huge difference.
Online system is easy to use.

Thanks, one thing to watch out for though is that if you get two quotes in an illiquid stock both companies won't be able to offer you the same stock so obviously one will be higher. I'd be surprised if you consistently get higher quotes with one provider over another though, as that would totally against their best-execution policy and hence would not be worth risking a reputation over a couple of tenths of cents. Now if it's a case that you are only being shown say 1.25 as a quote and it turns out to be 1.257 etc, then its just down to the system they use and would guarantee it's not them adding to the price.

Secondly I would be happy to go out on a limb here and say the quote price is 100% definitely the price you are contracted with any company you use.

If you click into your online account you should be able to view your contract notes online and they will show you the exact price you bought or sold stock, the valuation page may only show say 5p as you say, but the valuation will be based on the exact price, from what I can see.

I opened an account with ODL recently, I thought all trades were 12.5€, however I found out that trades over 2k € are charged 25€, I guess this is very high :(

I used to be with e*trade.co.uk but they are off the UK now.

Any advice on cheap/safe brokers in Ireland?

    Thank you....

I'm very happy with TD Waterhouse, good service and thier accounts also act like another bank account.

Trades cost €15 regardless of size.
