Tone down the Stadium annoucements

I watched the build up to the SA game on RTE. They were interviewing the former SA captain, Francois Pieneer at pitchside but I couldn't hear a word of what he was saying because the interview coincided with the annoying voice of the stadium announcer roaring the names of the two teams.
At one stage Tom McGurk asked Francois to hold his microphone closer to his mouth. It made little difference.

This stadium announcer has an irritating habit of shouting through his microphone.

I've also heard him at Croke Park where the IRFU resided there for international matches and at the RDS.

So, this is a plea to the IRFU. Tell the guy to tone down and not get so excited. Also, please turn down the music. We are not going to a concert.
I don't need to hear U2 blaring out from the speakers.

Maybe employ somebody with a more 'mature' voice and delivery style to make the announcements as the current guy sounds like he is early 20s and fancying his chances of a job in RTE!!!

Apparently its a different guy to last year but yeah i agree 100%.
Hate him and all the razmatazz that goes on in the Aviva.
Tacky nonsense. Was the same at the recent Munster Leinster game and i hate it. All these stupid songs and jingles when there's a score does my head in.
Its rugby not American football. Cant be long now before the cheer leaders arrive..although they were already out in force at a recent game in London if i'm not mistaken.
Takes away from the atmosphere if you ask me.

I agree and its worse than ever as he shouts the subs on and off the pitch, and there were about 6 or 7 different rounds during the second half, it totally ruins any atmosphere.

The music I can kind of live with if it is delivered in the right way. The most depressing thing about Saturday was when the team ran out to a half fill stadium and some guy shouting "Irish rugby's coming home!". Was a very bad spectator experience.

This is more a stupid mistake by RTE having him pitchside just before the match. Stadiums are loud. There are announcements and people shout and swear. It's going to happen... Go to the library if you want peace and quiet ;)

I think you are just complaining for the sake of it... The annoucments in the RDS and Lansdowne are quite tame in comparison to some stadium announcers that i've heard over the years, e.g. the saracens game in wembley had an announcer pretty much identical to xfactor/E4 voiceover dude... It was like a bloody basketball/american football game...

Maybe you are used to it but its absolutely head wrecking imo. For me that announcer is just another reason not to go back to the Aviva. I know many people that have the same opinion. His cheesy tone is terrible. Its cheesy ala Tony fenton but a hundred times worse.

As for the music, its just not nessecary imo. Adds nothing and I dont need to be encouraged to celebrate when someone scores. I'd prefer to just hear the crowd rather than some jingle. The game should be entertainment enough..not some tacky ****e coming over the speakers. Awful stuff.

My email to Leinsters PRO, Copied to Chief Exec:

    Dear Sirs,

I am writing to express my concern at the volume and frequency of PA announcements at the recent Leinster v Munster game at the Aviva on Saturday 2nd October last. Seated in the East Upper stand on the half way line, my father and I were astounded by the regular assault on our ears, which was a fairly constant source of irritation on an otherwise thoroughly enjoyable evening. It may or may not have complied with Environmental Health guidelines but I can tell you it was far too loud.

Furthermore, a match day atmosphere is primarily dictated by how the team performs over eighty minutes. The contrived nature of cheerleading by the PA announcer is wholly unnecessary and serves only to drown out and dissipate the unique interaction between those on and off the pitch. That's what the fans buy into. Leinsters marketing is often clever and innovative but the PA policy should be reexamined.

I would like to bring my children aged 6 and 9 to the Clermont game on December 18th, but will not risk exposing them to levels of noise which I would consider potentially damaging.

Any assurances or thoughts you can provide regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards,

    xxxxx xxxxxx

    Leinster PRO's response:

    Dear Mr xxxxxx,

Thanks for your e-mail. We appreciate your point and this is something that we have raised with the authorities in the stadium which we anticipate will be resolved for the next game.
    Best wishes,
    xxxxx

    Encouraging, I think?

    Fingers crossed anyway.
