Hi, can anyone recommend pedals to buy to replicate the David Gilmour sound.

    Thanks

Loads of resources and discussions online but none come close to www.gilmourish.com

Loads of discussion and analysis of pedals and mods and excellent section on replicating his most famous tones via Garageband if you have the software and interface.

If I were a guitarist it would be him or Jeff Beck I'd be trying to rip off!

If you are looking for a Dark Side of the Moon era tone you should grab yourself a Vibe pedal. This is the best one on the market in my opinion:

Check out the Colorsound Overdriver; REAL close to Gilmour territory. The yellow tone bender sounds spot on as well.

    God I love Colorsound..

first of all, any kind of single-coil equipped guitar, especially a strat would be a starting point

then a mild overdrive pedal or fuzz.. I've gotten some good results with a ehx big muff, think he used a dallas arbiter fuzz face a fair bit on tour though.. he tended to use fuzzes for a boost and overdrive rather than the hendrix/ billy corgan heavy fuzz you'd normally hear

Any kind of delay though if you can find a warm tape-style delay it'd help, he used echo effects primarily so a boss re-20 should do

Gilmour made nearly everything using just those few things..

After that the pedals like the vibe one above are essentially replicating the sound of a leslie cabinet/ rotary speaker which gilmour used a lot.. boss make one you'd find cheap enough called the rt-20 rotary ensemble.. i like the sound of the pedals above a lot though

he used a vox wah in his setup for most of his career as far as i remember, a dunlop crybaby should do.. it's cheap and the standard version seems to sound better than any of the licensed, endorsed or custom ones

    hope that helps

I think he used this setup

Simple enough. Just plug your guitar into this and then into the amp. Simples!

Gilmour actually used a Uni Vibe pedal instead of a Leslie speaker. The Sixties Vibe is a very close replication of the original according to those who have had both.

The Kobmeister had a good stab at it, kind of a cross between his own sound & something Gilmouresque though.

All the comments about racks full of effects are true enough but against that I remember a BBC series on the history of the guitar a while back and Gilmore was interviewed with just a strat and a tiny amp (think it was an old deluxe) and he was by far the best in the whole series ... Made amazing noise with just that ...
