I went into the Bank of Ireland in Dame Street today I had to get a Sterling Bank Draft ,

The Teller said that she could not give me a Draft For 1000 stg even though i had the equivaliant in euros in my hand, she said i had to lodge it into my Bank Account and then i could withdraw it and she could write the draft , helllooooooooooooooooooooo ????. but it gets better .

even when i lodged the cash it to my very own account, when she withdrew it to write the draft she asked me for ID,

This whole Bank system is screwwed,Penny wise , Pound foolish easy knowing i wasnt loooking for a mortgage

Oh right, correct the spelling mistake eh?!

Sterling Bank draft you say? You should go into a bank and say - I want to discuss Sterling Bank Drafts please. Then when someone comes over to discuss this with you you should tell them that they are doing a jolly sterling job keeping the windows closed and the draughts out. I can assure you that they will find the quizzical situation with much hilarity.

It's odd, but no doubt money laundering regs are behind it all.

There is a rationale to it - sort of.

Banks need to keep track of the money. Its only a paper trail.
No need to get pissed off over something so trivial. That is what Ranting & Raving is for.

yep , has been this way for a couple of years now ...u cant simply walk into a bank and buy a draft any more and money laundering legislation is behind it .

You wouldn't need a mortgage if you had a €1000.

You wouldn't need a mortgage if you had a €1000.

You could build up a right little portfolio for that

OP you should set up your own bank to provide these services. Sounds like there's a merket for them.

You could have got two from the same bank. They said to me one day the money needed to go through my account and I said it can't my account is over drawn and I dont have enough to clear it and get the drafts today, and I said how about you give me two for X amount and it doesnt need go through the account.....eh thats a good idea son. Job done. Think you can get a 999 postal order too.

Yea should have got 2 of them, prob what she wanted, so she could get 2 comissions

    ha ha

You can argue the toss. I'll just bring ID, complete my transaction and quickly emerge back into my life.

Get off yer high horse. yer just a disgruntled consumer because it didn't work out as easy as you thought it would be...

Turned out you were wrong... so what of it?

You think that's bad. They wouldn't even accept my deposit last week.

Apparently there's a difference between a sperm bank and one that deals with money. Who'd've thought it?

It's for compliance. I work in the money transfer business in the UK but still deal with the Irish regulator altho I'm not up to speed with banking regulations. I know for example you need ID to send €1,000 and above. Yes you can split amounts up but there have to be rules in place and lines have to be drawn and anyway usually there are monitoring systems in place to spot people splitting up money to avoid ID regulations etc.

Anywho, it must have taken all of an extra couple of minutes out of your day... Build a bridge and move on.

It's always like that whether you need a sterling bank draft or a regular one. It's because of Money Laundering. Have you never seen The General where he goes in with cash to a bank to get a draft, comes out and sends his cronies in to nick the money back for him? That's the reason why we all have to lodge it to our account.

And like any withdrawal from your account, you need ID.

paypal, internet banking etc, there really is no need to be stepping foot in a bank anymore!

that was to do with LENDING money, not taking money from some one's account.
