Having read a recent post about someone breaking par for the first time, I began to think about how much better than their handicap people have shot. I'd be interested to find out:
    • what is your best ever gross score in competition (stableford or x over/under), and what handicap were you off at the time
    • what is your best ever net score in competition, and what handicap was that off (if different from the above)
For me, it was last year, 10 better than my handicap, shot 1 over gross off eleven, my best gross and net score.

I'd be really interested to see what other people have shot, I think the results might be really interesting.

Shot +11 off 19 earlier this year in City West Lakes, currently off 15

The tougher the course, conditions and the tees you play off can disguise your best score

My best off 15 is +11, pretty average :o but a greater achievement than my best

Shot +7 off 17 earlier this year in Westport GC. Down to 13 now but best I've managed since is +11

Competition was -3 (68) gross off 4. Only had the one bogey. A 3 putt from inside 30 feet at the par 3 16th. Finished birdie birdie due to steam coming out of my ears. Could have been the only round in my life without a bogey.

Casual was -6 (65) gross but games against my dad are far from casual.

Both of these were done back in my school days when I was playing golf twice a day :)

69 gross (3 under par) off 7. 59 nett (13 under par) off 13. Both scores were done decades ago now - back in the last century!:P

Best round in competition was 72 (level par) off 9 but unfortuately the comp was cancelled becouse of a lack of numbers, next best to that though was 73 (2 over) off 11, since then I have gone under par on both nines, 3 under on the front and 1 under on the back but as of yet I haven't put them together.

67 (3 under) is best gross round off 4. Best net score was 51 points off 24 in 1993, i still have the card for that!

Level par in singles off 5
-2 (69 gross, off 3) from the back tees in practice, sank a 30 footer on the last for my lowest gross and first time to break 70.
-2 (off 5 a couple of weeks ago) in a fourball.
Shot -1 around Kilkenny in a casual round when I was about 20 years old and I had no handicap at the time, birdied the last then also. my previous best score had been +5 and my 2nd best was +8 at the time so it was a bit of a freak day!

74 (+2) on my home course for a 67 net in a medal (finished second), but I would say the best round I ever played was a 77 gross on the Portmarnock links in the winter pro/am 2 years ago (playing with a Pro and Harringtons brother), which won it!!

    As for consistency...I wish.

I parred first 17 holes and birdied last in Captain's Qualifier 2 years ago off 5. Needless to say the scores did not carry over and even more needless to say I could not repeat the trick 7 days later in the main event! I did get a nice crystal bowl for winning the qualifier tho!!

Best was early this year ... level par 69 (-11 nett) on our course with two holes shortened on the day. Followed in the ensuing 5 months by 14 .1s in a row. Mad game.

Best score is 77 off the medal tees in rathdowney. Had it twice in the first half of this year and thought I would shoot lower before winter but it wasn't to be.

Best Gross in competition is 68 (-2), playing off 5.

Best Nett in competition is 43 points -> Level par, playing off 7.

Same nett scores but the level par one came long before I ever shot under par.

Best ever in a casual round is level par also, with a lovely 3 putt bogey on the last. Nerves!!

Best Gross score was 73 last year around Powerscourt East off 6.

Still looking to break par in comp.

Best nett was 47 points off 17 back in 1993 in Old Dun Laoghaire.

Best score was this year, shot 84 (42 pts off Hcap 18)

Dropped 8 shots in 8 weeks during the summer! Delighted!

Best casual round score was 65 (-7) on Headfords old course, -5 front nine and -2 on the back, included a drop shot on the par5 11th... Best comp score was 4 under round Claremorris, birdie's on the first 4 holes and all pars after that. Both scores were shot off 3. Had a 3 under in Esker hills during the summer.

67 gross in back yard of Lucan (-4) for 44pts off 4 two years ago. 70 gross in Castleknock earlier this year off 1 but that aside, I've not come close to shooting a score outside of Lucan in any competition of merit :(. But it's all going to change next year

Best net and gross happened on the same day back in August this year in South County. Off 5, I shot 69 gross, with 15 pars and 3 birdies. That gave me 44 points (net 64) and the overall prize. I was cut to 4, but needless to say I finished the season on a low going back out to 5.

Nice score that. Bogey free round. Something I've never done. Came close a couple of times though.
One round where my only bogey was on the 6th (14 pars, 3 birdies and 1 bogey) and another round where I had 15 pars 2 birdies and a triple bogey. Triple came on the 8th. I would love to shoot a bogey free round.

I joined Citywest when i started to play a few years ago, i started with a handicap of 20 and after a winter of practice I won the first medal with a score of 10 over par, net 10 under. But again it's an easy enough course if you're having a good day striking the irons well
