What punishment may she get?

    Hiya folks.

Curios about a scenario. Stupid I know, but I am not involved !

A young lady, no previous history, about 20, driving a car with no licence, insurance or tax. Meaning to sort it out but of course, but hadn't!

Insurance disk in the window from the cars previous owner, hits a car and panics, drives off. Gets nine summons. Probably three for not having, three for not producing, one leaving scene of a crash, and the rest maybe no NCT (guess), etc etc.

Does anyone know the typical punishments for this?

Could it be custodial or more likely fines, community service, etc etc

    Thank you.

Assuming no previous history ( and there were no injuries to the other people in the accident ) I would be surprised if a custodial sentence was imposed . My guess is a hefty fine and an even heftier driving ban.

    +1

Judge may be curious as to wether she made any effort to report the matter after. Hit and run contains four summons.

I also doubt she's get a custodial sentence... but that's a pretty hefty amount of charges. She'd better not be interested in driving again for a while. I saw an 8 year ban recently for similar charges (less actually). Depends on the Judge's mood I suppose too.

As already pointed out a lot depends on what sort of a scene she left! Fender bender in a car park or a moving traffic collision.

Can't see a custodial sentence. Would be shocked if the fines were less than E2,000 though. Definite ban too I'd say.

Big fine and definitely a ban plus she will get totally shafted when she does eventually come out the other side (of the ban) and goes looking for insurance because she will be obliged to declare the ban and the other convictions to any prospective insurer.

Wouldn't surprise me if the judge gives her time in jail but it will all boil down to the judge that serves in her district court weather he is harsh on such cases, if she does get time she can appeal and more than likely the appealing judge won't be as harsh,

if she gets a judge like in my district court god help her as i was there a few weeks ago and he was giving jail time to driving offences a lot less to what she has done.

And also at least 4-6 years off the road.

The area it happened and where she is from is Dublin 10. I assume that would be cloverhill court - or even Richmond in the city centre.

I thought Cloverhill was only remand stuff?

I think all those things go to the Richmond now.

OP, you said in the original post that she got nine summons, read them and you'll see which court she's heading for.

I didnt see them at all. She told me about them and I am just curious about what she may face.

She doesnt even know about this. Thats why I have kept details vague.

She is a nice girl, just stupid and I am hoping she doesnt get punished to badly.

Well she better get herself a good solicitor and have the right attitude when she goes to court as in she needs to treat the matter very seriously. Tell her to make sure that she briefs a solicitor who is familiar with the court that she's summonsed to appear in because if the solicitor rubs the judge up the wrong way she could go down big time.

Knowing the form of the judge is going to be very important on the day, some judges are pompous assholes and care more about people being ultra obsequious than anything else, other judges are suckers for sob stories. A solicitor who appears in that court frequently will have the measure of the judge and that will be very important given the wide latitude of possible sanctions that will be open to him to impose on your friend.
