I know i have another post about a 3D machine.. But while talking in work today my mate asked me to build him a gaming PC and he has 1k to spend.

He wants to be able to play the latest games maxed out (if possible). He also needs a 22" + monitor

I was thinking a Core i5 processor. But not sure that motherboard... Also I'd like to put in atleast 1TB HDD.

Not sure on the RAM. Some ppl say 4 gig is find. But i was thinking more.

As i said he will be using it for gaming and watching DVD's and online football matches.

    Here's whats needed

    22" or bigger monitor (HDMI ? )
    Processer
    RAM
    Motherboard
    PSU
    Graphics Card
    Case
    DVD rom

I cant go over the €1k budget.

    Your advice is welcomed.

Shame... I could make a basic Eyefinity rig for €1100 :p

Well... I could do one for a grand, but as that leaves only €600 after monitors and shipping (and bear in mind the GPU has to be €200+ worth!) I'd be stuck cutting corners :o

    How's this

Overclocked i5 would be better. Too much PSU. Case is old. RAM is a triple-channel kit, you need dual-channel :o

My build up in a sec :o;)

Ah poo :o Not so successful :o:o I was a genius and went mad on the case and mobo and flung in a fully-fledged HD6870 and decent SSD... and forgot to add a CPU cooler or WTFOMGHAX monitor (to be fair I did sling in a mid-range 120Hz 22" model) :o:o

Even then I'm up to €1005 shipped... d'oh!

If you want you can dump the SSD and get a better monitor and a fancy CPU cooler instead :)

cheers... Does the SSD really work that well ? I've never used one but was reading up on it. compared to a normal HDD how much quicker is the game load time ?

Seconds instead of minutes. To be fair the SSD in that example is really a boot drive rather than for games but its still much nicer if you don't run a machine 24/7 - all things OS-related are snappier and every time you boot the machine up you're probably looking in Win7 loading fully within about ten seconds from POST rather than a minute or two; my current XP install takes the best part of three minutes to load, and Vista is worse!:eek::eek:

How did you manage that? Sounds like there's waaay too much junk loading up at the start.

I assume it's hardwareversand, given "netzteil" and "schwarz". The amazon series of the super flowers are the ones you should be looking at.

If you want a bit more PSU room for the future, you could XFX's 650W Core Edition, although completely unnecessary with that build.

You've got a triple kit of RAM there with an AMD system. Buy RAM in pairs. E.g., 2x2GB, 2x4GB or even 2x2GB + 2x1GB if you really wanted 6GB. 4GB is enough for most situations, so you could save some money there.

Since gaming is the priority, definitely go for at least either the GTX 460 1GB or the 6850 with your spare money. You might be able to squeeze in a 6870 with an extra €100.

    Edit: €151 for a 5770? Definitely swap that for a 460/6850.

looks like you'll be using for some type of PVR work, therefore bigger hard drive, cheap as chips these days, get two!

    Do you need that?
Also maybe get a cheaper case and a separate PSU.
