I reallly want to change careers from secondary teaching to primary teaching.... I want to know if there is anyone out there in the same situation? I am really interested in siting the honours irish in June but worried I've left it too late to start preparations for it. Changing careers is SO scary. Love teaching but feel I'm better suited to the primary system. The course I am most interested in is the Hibernia one. sounds like it would suit me!! is there anyone out there that has accomplished what I'm about to attempt!!!???

Any comments or advice would be much appreciated!!

    Thanks :)

Are you already in a secondary teaching job? Are you planning on leaving it?

There'll be lots of info from people sitting LC HL Gaeilge, and subsequently doing the Hibernia course on www.educationposts.ie.

Hundreds (thousands at this stage?) have done what you speak of, ie repeating Gaeilge and doing the Hibernia/other postgrad course. Apparently Hibernia are taking in 500 this October alone (and will be taking in similar levels in February), and I can only assume they'll be doing the same this time next year as long as they're making money. So there's obviously still a market for it, and you're not the only one contemplating it.

Ya Im on a part time contract for the year and it's fine but I'm just not lovin' it!! Obviously....I am SO grateful to have a job and I won't be throwing it away until I have the honour in the irish and the finances to go and do a post grad!! Thanks for your comment!!

What is your level of Irish like? If you have good foundations then with a lot of work you may be able to sit the exam this June. It is a long course with lots of poetry and prose. It would take an awful lot of work. Would you be able to juggle studying with your job?

You need to decide now as if you start studying and decide closer to June that you are not prepared and want to wait a year, you will have to start a new course. Next year's LC students will be sitting the new course with different poetry and prose.
