if the 2 types of car in the title were the same price which one would you go for? ive never had a diesel before so know nothing about them,i know this is a stupid question but do diesels have a timing belt? ive heard diesels need servising more regular than petrols,is this true.. if all was equal which one would you choose? i dont do huge commuting so long travel isnt an issue.its an opel 07 btw

Buy a diesel Vectra. Not the petrol.

    Actually don't. Buy anything else

Well I'm presuming a Vectra is what you're looking at and the diesel is best by a mile.

Put up links and people can give a better opinion as some diesels can give problems if used for city driving and at higher miles

The 1.9 will cost you more to tax (presuming both registered before 2008?) and is actually taxed as a 2.0 (1,910cc).

If you aren't doing big mileage then you won't save much money on fuel, but the 1.9 Diesel will be nice to drive than the 1.6 Petrol.

Service intervals on the 1.9 are every 30,000km - not sure on the Petrol 1.6, but there is more expensive stuff to go wrong on the Diesel. Clutch is more likely to go and will cost more to replace, and some versions of that engine have issues with the Turbo's (150ps)

i would say it goes down to price as if your not doing long journeys then they should even each other out. id say the diesel as most people i know are happier with them. does a vectra ( is it a vectra ) have a dual mass flywheel lads?

The 1.6 isn't too horrific to drive in the Zafira, and should prove cheaper in the long run if you aren't doing big mileage and don't plan on selling it for a while.

I'd expect the mileage on the Petrol to be much lower than the Diesel if they are the same year and same price. Or the specification might be higher - try to get one with Air Conditioning - it is definately required with 7 people in the car when the Sun decides to venture out.

my buddys old man has had two 1.6 zafiras and he loves em, the 1.6 is more than enough for normal driving

Only thing I would say if the Zafira is loaded with people it might struggle as a 1.6? Could wind up costing a fortune in petrol as a result. Not to mention the obvious performance issues but if this doesn't bother you...

We've one hanging around here for the past couple of years. My sister and family came over last year so I nabbed this for the weekend so we didn't have to take 2 cars. Loaded with 4 adults, 15 year old and 13 year old lads (so essentially 6 adults), and a 3 year old girl if was fine to drive.

It seems to be geared to make the most out of the engine. Acceleration from 100kph on the motorway is pretty poor, but it gets up to cruising speed admirably and wasn't that bad on juice for the weekend I had it.
