    Hi,
The location of my house means that upstairs gets very good signal (average 1.5mb/s) from my 3 broadband dongle whereas downstairs gets way less speed. The problem i have is that i mainly use my laptop downstairs so i'm constantly having to go upstairs if i want to download a big file or watch a you-tube video etc. I'm just wondering would my problem be solved if i got a router where i can plug in the dongle and place it upstairs. Does this in anyway affect the speed and would it relay the same signal to the rest of the house?
    thanks

Try to do a wireless network with a router

Yes that would solve all your problems. You could position the router upstairs to get the very best signal (usually in a window facing the mast where you don't have a wall blocking you) and then broadcast the signal to the rest of the house using wifi. The would also allow you to have more than one person on using the connection at a time if that's relevant.
