Driver License Category Anomaly

A "D" License allows one to drive a coach, whilst a "D1" allows one drive a minibus with up to 16 passengers.

However, the CPC legislation says the following:


“category D” means a vehicle having passenger accommodation for more than 8 persons and where the design gross vehicle weight of the trailer does not exceed 750 kilograms;

“category D1” means a vehicle in category D having passenger accommodation for more than 16 persons;

According to the RSA website category D1 covers vehicles in category D having passenger accommodation for not more than 16 persons so there is a direct conflict between the Statutory Instrument and the RSA.

Thats exactly what I thought, I'll have to look through further legislation to see if its repeated elsewhere; but I actually remember coming across it somewhere else!

However, an actual Driving License will have the RSA passenger carrying capacities on it.

Seems quite amazing- Only in Ireland???:)
