Anyone remember these from when they were younger - the beano and the dandy in particular. I used to read them every week as a kid. Great characters like Dennis the Menace and Gnasher (I often wondered if that was pronounced with a silent G) Desperate Dan, Minnie the Minx, the bash street kids, the jocks and the geordies.

There were other comics too - Nutty (I think this merged with the Dandy at some point) Whizzer and Chips, the beezer and the Topper.

I think the beano and the dandy are still going strong not sure about the others. Getting the annuals and summer specials every year was something to look forward to.

It was a great way of getting kids to read too.

    Yeah, they were brill alright.

I used to get the Beano & Dandy in the '70s. Have to agree that the annuals were an excellent way to get into reading.

Think they had comics for the girls too, like Bunty?

Just thinking of checking out the newsagents to see what's available these days as I have a 5 year old girl now, whose now getting into the whole reading thing now.

Yeah there was Bunty and one called Jackie I think. There were definitely more for boys though.

All the characters in the comics used to get spanked with a slipper when they were bold. I wonder has this changed over the years. Maybe they get grounded now.

Jackie was the "teenager" magazine of the day if I remember. The comics were Bunty and Mandy!

Did DC Thomson bring out the Hotspur and Victor comics as well? Victor was full of war stories, I remember!

Not sure about victor but there were a series of comic booklets containing war stories. I think they were called commando mostly set in world war 2.

I also remember comic books called creepy tales. These were american I think mostly science fiction based.

Comics were great. Not as popular these days I suppose. Can't compete with the internet, the xbox or sky.

Bunty and Judy were the first DC comics for girls, I think. June was another title I remember, also School Friend, although as far as I remember I only saw these in England. Mandy was a late-comer to the market, being introduced in the mid-60's. Jackie was definitely for teenage girls. Was FAB 208 a DC publication?
