Diablo 2

Hey guys

A couple of quick questions. I was recently looking at some videos of Diablo 3 and its made me yearn to play this genre again. God knows when Blizz will actually release the new one too....

Anyway, what I wanted to know is, is it still possible to play Diablo 2 as a new player in co-op? I want to play with my brother but neither of us have played this in years so have no existing characters. Can you start again online is my question I think?

Also, are there any nice mods out there that update graphics / improve gameplay etc?

If you want a similar game that's not Diablo, look at Torchlight. Picked it up cheap on steam a while back, it's really fun. Cartoonier style, but the same sort of game.

Pretty certain battlenet is still up for it, probably riddled with hackers, im also certain there was a ip option so you can just load directly into your bros game or vice versa.

No clue on the mods aspect, sorry.

The expansion adds an 800x600 resolution option, which is about as much modding as the graphics have got afaik. There are plenty of mods adding new enemies/ramping up the difficulty. After playing with an extended inventory/unlimited stash size mod, I couldn't go back to playing without. Tempting to buy a key and get playing again now..

Tourchlight is good fun and has better pictures than diablo.
Plus it cheaper, but no multiplayer.

Though my mate says diablo mp is hacked up so maybes no multiplayer good.

Was looking for games that work on a netbook and came across Diablo II. Have to say it suits the netbook great because the graphics don't look at ropey on the smaller screen.

I'm currently a lvl18 Paladin and just finished act I. Epic stuff altogether.

I'm going to look into the extended inventory mod because at the moment my inventory is two thirds full of charms and tomes and shíte.

Was just randomly looking around myself for news about D3 and while I was at it checked in to see what has happened to D2 in the last few years - short story on Blizzard's end is, not that much - some new items and a tiny bit of content.... however, I did know modders used to do some pretty interesting stuff and then I came across this. And can I just say its completely awesome!!! Its a massive overhaul on the game and is actually every bit as fun to play as it was when I first played D2 10+ years ago!

So if you are/were a D2 fan, definitely check it out. Its either SP or MP thru TCP/IP. Also, if you patch to 1.12 you can use this mod to up the res to whatever you like, so no more 800*600 ^^ (seriously, you can even use eyefinity if you have it lol)

Between the hi res mod and the MXL mod, its like Diablo 2.5 - cant praise it enough! :pac::pac::pac::pac:

EDIT: Also, what caused me to actually look online at all about info was I had recently reinstalled D2 and on loading up a (SP) char I have kept saved for many years I got a drop called a "Key of terror" never seen it before, so online I went. Turns out its part of the tiny new content blizz put in a couple of years ago. I read it was an online (battle.net) event only, but found this mod which will allow you access the 'online' event in SP mode. Id imagine most ppl have long since stopped playing it so if you - like me - want to see the new bosses for yourself, you can use that mod and do it in SP (Altho im sure its not quite the same as doing it online with others XD). And for speed sake, Ill link a copy of my char, just drop that in your "save" folder inside ur D2 directory and ur done. (<--- Is very proud of that guy ;p back when I was majority addicted if the net went down I played on that guy, hes completely legit - only cheeky thing I did was backup the char before attempting to make a high runeword - if you know this game you know how hard they are to come by, wasnt taking the chance id randomly get crappy stats, so I did a few 'do-overs' til I got near perfects XD lol)

Its awesome! I cant praise the thing enough!

Remember if you do wish to play at more than 800*600 (!!) u must only patch to 1.12 (LoD). It wont matter as far as the MXL mod is concerned so your not missing out on anything. The other minor bug fixes that came with 1.13 pretty much dont apply to MXL mod since they are spell related and the mod has 100% its own new spells.

The mod has even made an impression on blizzard http://diablo2.diablowiki.net/Median_XL

(And a lil fyi, if u do get it, be sure to download the manual - really handy, since it lists all the items, cube recipes and runewords etc - even tells u what lvl ur hireling learns new things XD)
