I like to think if you are a good writer blessed with great insight you can become a journalist, regardless of your academic background. (I like to cite Robert Fisk, the famed middle east correspondent for the London Independent who has a background in linguistics)

A history degree is just a start. The Trinity degree programme is excellent and you will study under the guidance of some of Ireland's finest historians in your sophister years. Provided you take the opportunity granted to you, a world of possibility awaits. History provides the most comprehensive education, I think. If you could but combine it with English Literature and Philosophy (Maybe some political science too) then you could be a perfect man of letters. Unfortunately men of letters don't often make much money. Which is something you should consider if money is a driving force in your life (Its not for me, I'm happy to earn shít money so long as I'm doing something rewarding. Why spend the rest of your life in resentment by getting into something like law or high finance?)
