Hey I was driving a 96 Range Rover p38 2.5 jeep the other day and managed (dont ask) to break the oil sump....

How big of a job is it to replace it? Havent had a good look at it yet but I wouldnt think theres any need to remove the engine/ and or lower the suspension to take it out. Would one normally have to do this to replace the oil sump?

It has the same engine as a bmw 525.

Anybody done this job before? Your advice would be appriciated!

    Thanks

If you'd asked this over on the 4x4 forum I'd have answered it hours ago ;)

Also, as a LR owner, why haven't you downloaded a RAVE manual yet!

Anyway, taken from RAVE, jack up vehicle, support under chassis and allow front axle to drop, gives clearance to get sump out. Detach dipstick tube and and PAS pump bracket bolts into the sump. Remove remaining 20 bolts (inc 3 in the bell housing and detach.

When you put it back, don't overtighten, the torque figures barely equate to nipping them up.

Download your RAVE Cd here, find out for yourself next time :D
