With the country fecked as it is and everyone wanting to get FF out of office, I was wondering if anyone here would think of running in the next election?
People who a lot of us reckon would be good at it like Eddie Hobbs and David Mc Williams wouldn`t do it for personal reasons such as how their families would be affected by public pressure so would you?

If I could delete every single Boards post I ever made, then I would. There is great money to be had.

Assuming, boards is still alive and well, and my posts from 3 years ago on anal sex, why mass sterilisation is a good idea, and why politicians should get less money, are still visible to the entire electorate world, No.

Yes - but only on the following two conditions.

    1) Every pr1ck currently sitting in the Dail must stand down, to allow genuine talent to replace them.

    2) Every pr1ck currently in the Dail, can then chose from the following options upon their resignation.
    A - Long term imprisonment.
    or
    B - Public execution.

Nice to see your election to the dail would be in condition of breaking the law.

I keep saying it and I'll keep saying it: The deck is stacked against outsiders.

Political parties got €80,000+ per TD from state money last year to run their operations. €13.8m total. FG for example spent €90,000 on media training for its people.

They also, of course, get all their office and expense perks. I wonder how many Dail headed letters will be going out these days to potential supporters, volunteers, doners etc?

They spend €30,000 - €40,000 in just the 3 weeks of a GE, and in total you're looking at €100,000+ to get one outside TD elected over a year or more of campaigning.

The TD's and parties realisticly only have to fundraise a part of what they spend, for their posters and stuff they spend in the final 3 weeks of a GE.

For much of the rest, there's public money which at the very least helps them fundraise and keep costs - like policy formulation - down. And God forbid any of the money for conferences etc would be used to butter up potential donors to the party or candidate later on.

    What does an outsider get?

Nada. Up to €8,000 in expenses if you get a % of the quota.

Apparently not being a corrupt person and too honest with regards to finances is not the criteria essential to the job!

No way. Seriously, what's the point in running for office?

I intend to seize the reins of power in a bloody coup and rule like a mediaeval king.

Eh wtf? Hobbs should have been exiled to Siberia for being one of the chief cheer leaders for the spend, spend, spend BS that went on during the boom.

    Yeah, I'd do it.

Seems like a cushy number. Loads of dough for doing fuck all.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,572 ✭✭✭msg11

    I would do it.

How do you do it ? I would be an independent though.

The first thing I would get/try to get (won't promise anything) is rid of that 30kph zone on the quays in town and get it back 50kph and reduced speeding fines from 80€ to 40€, still keep the 2 points. Also get some road resurfacing done on road that are long over due.

Is it true what I am thinking , I would need a load of money to get started. Alot of these folks that knock on me door are DCC members (what ever the **** that means) and are in with the community. I can't see anyone backing a 20 year old..

For the moment, rumour has it there is a dignity tax coming in next budget.

My point exactly. They'll take from me that which they lack themselves.

    No

I'd have people moaning at me for doing local work and not spending time in Dublin on national issues.

And when I go to Dublin I'll have people moaning me as I missed the funeral of Johnny, the local legend who played county hurling in the 1950's

The people who bitch about their reps getting 3 months summer holidays are the same whingers if the local rep doesn't show up to their poxy residents association meeting about some local NIMBY issue.

It costs thousands to run a campaign and the odds of rejection are extremely high for a first time candidate.

I'm pretty sure Biggins is going to seize power in the new year. He'll try to do it democratically but either way he'll seize power

No, becuase I don't like a lot of them.

Not only that, they have double standards. I was talking to a TD in the shop earlier, geeting his phone fixed for him, he was very cheesed off that it had broken. The second he mentioned he was a TD, I reckoned he was looking for favour, so I mentioned that my Dad had until recently been a relatively high-up civil servant. God did his opinion of me change instantly. Same thing last week with a Senator, expected first class treatment for a first class fella. I treat everyone the same, me ;)

The fella is an Independent as it turns out, if I'd know that I'd have plagued him to turn against the feckin governemnt and given a new phone to the man for nothing if he agreed! :P
