Problems having set-to-box collected after cancellation

Got sky in 5 weeks ago using the sky in your apartment dealy, anyway cancelled the UPC and paid up in full after more than a few calls from the "retention department"..girl on last call says that they will be out on saturday to get the box and do we mind making sure its all packed up etc which i had no problem with. Obviously enough the collection company never appeared and after being on hold for 15 minutes i gave up and chucked the box into the cupboard.

2 weeks ago i decided to ring back (thinking they would have contacted me) and get through after another ten minutes on hold to be told the same old "can you be there on saturday between 12-5" to which i agree but tell the girl if they do not come this time im not ringing back and will take it as an indictation that they do not want the box back...she assures me they will collect it. Obviously another no-show.

Emailed them yesterday and told them that the box is being placed outside the apartment front door on saturday morning and if they want it its up to them.

I know somebody will come on and give it the "you signed the contract its your responsibility" line but after contacting them twice and getting assurances it will be collected and also the fact that UPC havent even contacted me and seem happy to waste my time im absolving myself of the responsibility of storing their equipment.

I know this comes off as a bit ranty but even after i have got rid their service they are still managing to frustrate me :)

The two phonecalls and email should have been sufficient to be honest but if he sees the thread and wants to contact me then i have no problem with that. Im not wasting any more time chasing upc to collect their own equipment.

They'll never collect it imo. Mine was waiting there for 5 months for collection and has been been under a pile of logs in the shed for the last 8 months, contacted them twice about it and never heard back.

Might be worth sending them a registered letter or something tracable like that and outline the attempts made on your part to return the equipment. This is to cover you in case they try to persue you for the charge involved in not returning equipment.

OP, you might choose a little less provocative title for the thread next time. It made it sound like you were offering your digibox to readers, which is not allowed under the T&Cs of your contract (since it belongs to UPC).

I'm altering the title to one which more reflects the content of your post.

When I cancelled they made no effort to collect the box despite numerous emails. So when i moved i just left it behind. I wouldn't sweat it as they seem to have zero interest in getting them back - the courier probably costs more than the box - as we all know they have to the most substandard hardware i have ever received from a TV company.

I gave up on UPC and one thing that actually worked was getting the box picked up!!! 3 days after my contract with them "expired" a person came to actually pick up the box from my home at the promised time :-)

BUT, this being UPC nothing is as forward as it should be.

2 weeks later I got a phone call saying that they hadn't received the box yet. I kindly told them that the box had been collected by a courier. The person apologized and I thought that was it.

Another 2 weeks past by and I got another phone call from UPC where I was told that the box was now long over due for returning and I would have to pay blah blah blah. So again I told them nicely that the box had been picked up 4 weeks prior and I was not to pay anything.

So far so good. 1 week later I got yet another phone call and this time I kind of had had it with UPC so I told them that the box had been returned and that they had to stop harass me or I would take legal action from them. This sorted the problem once and for all and I haven't heard from UPC since then :-))))

Oh, this was even the crappy silver Thomson box :-)

Sorry to dig up an old thread, get the upc bill yesterday and it has an 'unreturned equipment' charge of €160 on it...needless to say Mrs Jaysoose has now taken over the handling of this case as if i end up speaking to them all the equipment will be stored in the skip.

How in gods name can they justify an unreturned equipment charge when they didnt bother coming to get the equipment? Shower of incompetent clowns.

Quick update, missus was on to UPC who have promised that somebody will be out this saturday before twelve..ok fine..

Apparently we are to pay the bill with the charge on it and then UPC will credit our account... missus politley told them that the bill will remain unpaid until the equipment is collected and the amount paid will be minus the €160 charge. If this is unsatisfactory then UPC can come and uninstall the broadband and close the account. She is waiting on a callback from a supervisor, how in gods name do UPC think people will pay money in good faith when they cant even arrange a simple task like collecting their own equipment?

    The mind boggles.

Had an issue that UPC sent me two HD boxes on startup and signed me up to two accounts, I called them about it and they said no problem. 2 months later I get a text message saying due to non return of box my account has been cancelled. Called them up and gave them a bollocking, box is still in my living room still not collected.

Thats the frustrating thing UPC operate is such a ridiculous un-joined up way that they try to push the blame onto the customer when they themselves have made the error.

Still no callback about the digibox as yet but then why am i surprised when im dealing this joke of a company.

If you let this go to court could you claim damages for time wasting and use of your time I wonder? Just make sure you write down the times you call them and when it goes to court ask for transcipts of the phone calls you made! They wont have a leg to stand on!
