Hi, I'm off to the states shortly with my shiney new smartphone. I was hoping to use the Ovi maps app there when I get lost/need to find somewhere good to eat. Just checked with Meteor though and its €10 /mb  for data in the US.

    4 questions so.

    Does Ovi maps download data?
If I'm connected to a free wifi is there any cost to me?
How do you make sure the phone (Nokia N8) isn't connecting to the internet while away?
I think my phones unlocked, so would it be easier/reasonably priced to just buy a prepay sim card over there and use that?

    Thanks

    Lucky thing

Yes, it can do. It can be selected so it doesnt.

    Nope

In the destinations settings on the phone, you can change settings, put programs into offline etc to stop this.

You could do this yes, but will be awkward for your own calls. I would just use the maps in offline mode, you can preload the USA map on the handset before you go using the ovi suite map loader.

    Thanks
