Probably the E28, but the E12 runs it very very close for styling.

I had 3 E28s a diesel and two turbo diesels. Used to drive W115s W123s and W124s up till then but they opened my eyes completely. Any of them as an Alpina or M model would be a bonus. There was a white 1980 M535 up on the "heres a classic I saw today" thread a couple of weeks ago, its what I mean. Its a shame they never made the E28 into an estate or a coupe. I know the 6 series is based on the E12 but I mean a coupe in the same style as a W123 or W124 coupe. E28 has the lines to do this.

The batmobile version is a bit flash for me so I'd settle for one of these (in this colour). :)

Then theres always this..... a guy I worked for in Munich years ago had one. A great looker from any angle and has aged very well.

Incidentally I had an Isetta for about a year or so, great fun and an absolute fanny magnet. (if you'll excuse the expression).:pac:

There were some built by coachbuilders but regrettably very few. BMW also built one, (if not three) as mock ups. I think that photo shows how classy and elegant the E28 estate could have looked.

Some people have also done a 2 door convertible out of the E28, saw one at a BMW meet in Austria in the late 90's. Had a German reg. Gorgeous car.

Hans Stuck in the BMW M1 was a bit of legend, I'd take a BMW 700 coupe just to be different

My favourite BMW legend is the one made with an indicator stalk!
Or maybe that was a myth rather than legend?
    :)

The original three series was one of the best looking small cars of the 1970s imo. The one in this pic even more so!

It was 1971 and I was turning 21 and my father had promised me a new car if I had achieved certain results etc..
I was living in Durban, South Africa and the customs and excise had recently confiscated a car that was being snuck in , it was coming up on auction, and I told my father I had found my present.
he choked when he saw it, at the time they were the most expensive sportscar you could buy, it was £100 more expensive then the Ferrari 246 and £300 more than a 911, so the auction was bound to be active.
My next choice was a Triumph Spitfire but that fell by the wayside too as it did not have rollbars and I had already rolled one car.

To cut a long story short I always hankered after my original desire as well as the Triumph Spitfire.
a Couple of classics later I finally found one I could afford, under the proverbial widows shed, been stood for 10 years after her late hsband had been trying to restore her.
I bought it, fixed it and when I came to ireland 6 years ago sold it to a friend who is turning her into a replica.

after about a year in Ireland, the wife suggested I might want to find something to keep me occupied as I think I was driving her nuts.
Ebay, a couple of glasses of wine and some tostesterone, and I had a rusted wreck.
it took 4 years, it will never be totally perfect, but it puts a smile on my dial every time I drive it.

as to my second choice, this is in process as we speak.

Many people already have imported BMWs, including me.

    My favourites have to be the E24, E28, E34 AND E32, though i wouldnt say no to a mint 2002 turbo, E30 m3 or E36 M3 either
