    1000-1200 yo yos per load. That was the price 2 months ago anyway. Doesn;t last as long as one would think either.

    how much timber on those loads is it by the cubic meter or by weight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,676 ✭✭✭kay 9

    Cubic meter. Just don't get codded with them coming with the lighter stuff, not as much stuff in it. I seen the cousin got a load and doesn;t do too much burning at all and he's half way through it in about 3 months. What ya burning it in if ya don't mind me asking?

    i wil be bagging it and selling it on have done it last year but intend to di a bit more this year i have a firewood processor so trying to get a bit of a round going

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,676 ✭✭✭kay 9

    Ah it don;t matter what size logs they bring ya if your bagging it for sale as much. You would be down on potential profit all the same as a 40" log has alot more timber than a 12". You should try get a good deal if your buying more than one load of the same fella;) I know someone that got a serious load for 800euro and the lad that delivered still had nice profit.

    that sounds like great value at 800 we are selling it at 4euro a bag plenty of work in it for little profit but thats the way in everything now

    Tell me about it, and seems thing will get worse the way our leaders are telling lies to the IMF:rolleyes: Have you a log splitter or do ya do it all with the saw? A sharp saw is faster sometimes. Alot of them splitters are fairly slow. Ah yes, ya said you have a processor, I'm tired I think:D

    yea, the old lad cuts 2-3 full loads a year and does it all with the saw its just as quick and the blocks look a lot beter when ur selling em

    Can someone tell me what is the best firewood to burn in a stove?
    Have access to lots of Ash, Sycamore, Birch, white thorn, and the odd Sally, evergreen and Pine trees as well.

    I'd like to know what timber gives off the best heat and what will last the longest in the stove.

    Cheers.

    Coillte sell by weight and you will get a weight docket with every load and charge €1000 + Vat for a 25 ton load.

    Unless its hardwood you're buying, the lighter stuff is the stuff to get as the heavier stuff will normally be green timber which needs to be seasoned for at least 12 months before you can burn it - it will burn for a long time if you burn the green stuff, but there will be no heat out of it and your chimney will soon clog with creosote.

    Also, the lighter the timber is, the more you will get per load when buying by weight.

    Ash wins hands down. Not only does it give off the most heat and burn for longest, but it is also the easiest to split - especially if you split it when it is green and then stack the split logs to dry.

    as already said, ash is probably the best from what you have listed but they will all burn well when seasoned to a moisture content of between 20 and 25%. As they say wood burns, water doesnt...

    True Hammer. I find that ash seasons faster than most woods - so long as it is split. A good option is to cut down trees in the winter months when the sap is low. Ash that I cut last february and split and stored in a shed from May to the present is currently showing a moisture content on the moisture meter of below 20% which is ideal for my log gasifyig boiler.

    Here's your answer Dryan!

    Logs to burn; logs to burn;
    Logs to save the coal a turn.

    Here's a word to make you wise
    when you hear the woodman's cries;
    Never heed his usual tale
    That he's splendid logs for sale
    But read these lines & really learn
    The proper kind of logs to burn.

    Oak logs will warm you well,
    If they're old and dry.
    Larch logs of pinewoods smell
    But the sparks will fly.
    Beech logs for Christmas time;
    Yew logs heat well;
    'Scotch' logs it is a crime
    For anyone to sell.
    Birch logs will burn too fast;
    Chestnut scarce at all;
    Hawthorn logs are good to last
    If cut in the fall.
    Holly logs will burn like wax,
    You should burn them green;
    Elm logs like smouldering flax,
    No flame to be seen.
    Pear logs and apple logs,
    They will scent your room;
    Cherry logs across the dogs
    Smell like flowers in bloom,
    But ash logs all smooth and grey
    Burn them green or old,
    Buy up all that come your way
    They're worth their weight in gold.

    Just found the prices that i wrote down a few weeks ago. Rang Coillte for prices and softwood is 36 euro a cube and hardwood is 46 a cube with an artic loading measuring 30 cube. These prices are plus vat at 13.5%.
    Lengths are about 3 metres but could be more and diameter of material veries from small to big, you have no choice, take what you are given.

    Anyone know of anyone other than Coillte selling wood by the load?

    anyone interested in buying standing timber near Dungarvan?

    3 very large pine type trees need felling and removal of all the debris. Roots can be left.

    .A guy near here will sell split timber by the 10 ton load for 40 euro per m3. You couldn't afford to buy from coillte at that price.

    Here's a reply to my request for a quote from them:
    Hello l,
    You have got the right person. I am the central contact for such enquiries coming from the northern half of the country.

    We do sell individual lorry-loads of pulpwood logs to domestic customers (3.0 metres in length and ranging in diameter from 10cm up to 35cm). You will have to split the logs yourself. The approximately price is 1100 per load delivered (incl. VAT at 13.5%). A load is usually 25 tonnes but it will vary. Each load is weighed.

    My colleague Lorcan Harrison is the wood production manager for Leitrim - Lorcan can arrange delivery, though transport is very difficult there at present as I'm sure you know.

    Lorcan's number is 0868117044. please persist in trying to contact him but if you cannot give me a call on 0862058871

    Jst wondering I had a bit of forestry first thinned recently, I'm getting Round 10 euro a ton for the timber, a few questions,1, how many m*3 in a ton, 2 , ,how many Ton does a forestry truck take.3, the price is taking into account the boys cut it , and drew it out, I don't pay them but again how much does a forestry contractor charge to cut and draw out the timber, the timber ranges from 100mm to 225mm decent enough size logs,

    Sorry, 10 ton is only the size of the truck, he doesn't sell by weight, he sells by the cubic meter. There may only be 7 or 8 ton in the load. The truck holds 22 big bags which are 1m3 each. But he prefers to deliver loose and will charge you extra for the bags if you want them.

    Thanks... sounds about the same as I paid last year, ~€120 a ton delivered and he will taylor the length/split to requirments, 3 ton load. If I wer well I have a few trees down that need cutting but not at the moment.

    i find beech the best in a stove. Ash is my second fav. I get more heat and lasts long with beech for some reason.

    Something seems slightly amiss with the load size. A 20 ton 8 wheeler will carry approx 15 m3, cant see how he would carry 22m3 in a 10 tonner. :confused:

    Hi
    Does anyone know where we can get hardwood logs in the Gorey Area by the ton

    Thank's

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,123 ✭✭✭TomOnBoard

    I have loads of timber that I would be happy to transport to Gorey if you'll pay me by the ton. Why? Coz it's just been felled and is probably 50-60% sap/water.

    This thread started out trying to deal with timber by volume out of the forest (i.e. priced in terms of true timber volume regardless of moisture content.

    Somewhere along the way, someone moved to volume of cut/split timber (i.e. Veeerrrrryyy loose volume)

    And now our latest posts are talking in terms of tons.

    Apples & Oranges, people....
