Sony Vaio Wireless Switch?

    Hi,

Turned my laptop on there on Friday only to find it wasn't connecting to any networks. Discovered after carrying out the diagnostics and troubleshooting etc, it was saying the network adapter wasn't switched on when the wireless switch clearly was. I then discovered that the little LED beside the switch it wasn't flashing or on, so I take it my wireless switch is bunched.

Just wondering if anyone has had this problem before?

Also, would this be handy enough to fix myself, or how much would it set me back to get fixed? the sony warranty is up and they would probably rape me sending it back to them to get fixed!

any suggestions would be great :)

    thanks in advance

let me put this in a simple way...
lets categories the laptop wifi switch powering ups in two ways...

one is by a direct power supply from the power distribution section of a laptop motherboard

next is a driver controlled power supply

let me make it more clear.... in a direct power controlled switch the led lights up as soon as you push the switch to 'on' position. in some laptops even the 'off' position lights up a different color led.

the next is a driver controlled switch and led, until and unless the proper driver is not installed on your laptop for your wifi the switch or its leds wont work or show up anything.

so check the driver, try uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for your wireless lan and see if its working... if not then it could be your switch or the motherboard.

--- if you have never disassembled a laptop then i would not advice you to do the below tests yourself.. because laptops are a bit complicated to disassemble as it may have very thin cables, connections, joints etc which can mess things up very easily if unnoticed ----

if you want to go more further in fixing this issue then lets talk about the internal architecture of the motherboard considering the switch....

it depends on what laptop make u have... on some laptops the switch is integrated onto the motherboard.. if this is the case you may have to check the switch for some physical damage or else its the motherboard or your wifi card which is faulty.

if the switch and its components are not integrated then you may test the switch for any internal physical damage or use a voltmeter to check the circuit if you are able to do it, if no defects found then it must be your motherboard or your wifi card.

if you are new to this type of stuffs why not take it to a laptop service who does a free checkup.. like we do!! I do appreciate the courage you have to disassemble and try it yourself.. not everybody has that courage and braveness… great on you!!! but sometimes we require enough knowledge along with our courage to get things rolling… so do some research and you will get things right!! all the best!!

    hope this helps

    cheers
