Minor Car crash - what's the procedure?

Reversed into parked car in car park a few days ago. Got out and waited for owner to arrive. Driver looked at damsge and was pleasant about it. I asked him what he wanted to do and he suggested we exchange insurance details. Did that and I took a couple of photos and drove off.

Thing is his car was a bit of a wreck and damaged already. He said I broke his light but there was no glass on the ground.

We did not call gardai as it was pelting down and he said they would not come out for a minor accident anyway.

Is this the correct procedure in the event of minor accidents. Any idea on what happens now. I've never been in an accident before.

did you photo the ground to prove there was no broken glass from tail-light ?

(as far as I know) you should report the accident to Gardai anyway - goto your local station and give them the details.

There is no obligation to report the accident to the Gardai if there was no personal injury and if you go down to the station to report it they'll probably tell you to shove off.

When did he tell you that you had broken his light? If he only did so afterwards then he doesn't really have a leg to stand on since both of you were present and he should have pointed this out at the time. A lot of people are 'pleasant' at the time of an accident but when they get 'advice' from friends later they can whistle a different tune. Don't be suprised if he puts in a claim for wrecking his suspension or an axle.
