Will this receiver work on Irish DTT SERVICE ???

Panasonic DMR-XW380EBK 250GB HDD DVD Recorder with
Twin Freeview HD Tuners

Well has it an Mpeg 2 or Mpeg 4 tuner??

Dtt is Mpeg 4 only...

As it says freeview i think it is only Mpeg2, sounds like its for the UK market!

As it's Freeview HD and not Freeview it should be fine.

So basically no..

You see Freeview=MPEG2 but Freeview HD is=MPEG4 and also DVB-T2 (compatible with DVB-T) MPEG2 is older standard than MPEG4 so old doesn't work on new. DVB-T is older than DVB-T2 also. New works with old but old doesn't with new.

At 400 GBP + it would want to work....... a question re. DTT+...just curious about how you handle the feeds from the areil-can it be split or is it like a sat feed and need 2 dedicated feeds from the ariel? (just curious)

DTT is just like analogue TV for Aerials, Splitters, amps.

unlike satelite it only needs one aerial feed.

That machine the op is talking of getting though is a waste of money.
Get the humax freeview+hd pvr instead.
Its a lot cheaper and a much better piece of kit! it will receive saorview [and obviously uk freeview hd aswell if you are lucky enough to be in an area that gets that]

Did anyone think to ask this chap where he is and what his expectations are ?

If you are in Dublin or any other part of the country that isnt on the coast from Wicklow to Wexford or indeed a border area then you will receive only 5 channels. You do know that I presume.

Also for €169 you will get a HD Combo box that does both and allows you to record to a hard disk. You can record DTT watch another DTT station or record sat and watch DTT or (vice versa).

if she's getting a box anyway,then why not a better and cheaper box like the humax?
Is it something to do with already having a panasonic and thinking it's remote will do?
It mightn't.
Anyway theres such things as universal learning remote controls.
Theres no need for a tray of remotes these days.

400stg is a ridiculous price for a Terrestrial DVR even still! The Humax any cheaper. PVRjunction.co.uk very good for comparisons.

I havent time for holidays, I am too busy telling people from Castletown to Ballyconnigar to turn their aerials around and stop combining with VHFs and Red tips in the one array!

The reason for this box is it has a DVD recorder and wifi built in.
In the room Sony 32in TV, S£££y box(FTV), Video,
DVD player and stereo system.
It will make life a bit easier.
On a Lidl remote...

In the kitchen I have a SpiderBox. TM1500ci+
and internet all connected to a Samsung TV....

Well I suppose that makes sense,given thats what you want.
Main thing is,it will work with saorview.

So its the DVD player thats driving this ?

Can you get Freeview from NI in Sligo. If you can then okay if not just burn your money in a bin, you have too much! Seriously dont spend that much for a DVD/DTT Combo.

And the spiderbox well......actually it always made me laugh what that guy got up to - I am surprised they havent been shut down. The rebadged MVision 300s.

You obviously like gadgets..... have a look at this (it might be an option if you can lose the dvd option - the media player plays mkv's avi's etc and it records and picks up Irish DTT and wifi etc) £160

Looks like a great bargin, but humax dont ship to ireland as per (http://www.humaxdirect.co.uk/terms.asp)

Hi Easkey,

Whatever happened regarding this box, did you ever get one and does it 'see' the Saorview channels / working ok with Irish DTT? Any issues? Time setting, EPG info etc?
