    Hi all,

I decided to upgrade from vista Home premium to Windows 7 ultimate 64.
Install went OK for the best part, problem is it doesn't see the video card, Nvidia 8600m gt. Insteads it just installs the default VGA driver. I've located 64 bit drivers for the video card but when I try to install them they just return that there is no compatible card installed. This card is working fine under vista home premium. Also just to note the laptop is a Sony VAIO VGN-AR71S in case anyone can help. I removed the adapted from the device manager but windows just installs the default VGA driver again. I've included a screen shot of the device manager & the install driver error message.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hmm... maybe turn off the Windows Updater, uninstall the VGA adapter again from the device manager. Then re-install the 260.99 driver again.

Or alternatively right-click the VGA adapter, go to properties and see if there's an option to update the driver?

Other than that I have no idea.

Edit: At the bottom of the 'Supported Porducts' page it says only Sony Vaio F series notebooks are supported. That could be the problem.

Got it sorted in the end by using some website to change the .inf driver details. Wasn't easy & I don't want to have to do it again so time to make an image of the drive.

You are correct in saying that my laptop wasn't supported by Sony.
    But running sweet now.

    Thanks again.

laptop drivers are tricky i just use laptop drivers 2 go.com

nvidia and the manufacturer websites suck. Nvidia doesnt support the mobile drivers and the mfgs only support the installed OS.

I always seem to be able to find the right drivers on the nvidia site.
    This should be yours

If you've no joy finding that Driver, I can upload mine to Rapid share/Mega Upload for you. I presume you've the same VAIO model & Graphics card as me?
