Can swimming cause upper back pain?

    Hi,

I'm not looking for medical advice, this is more a question about form specific to swimming front crawl.

I was just wondering is there anything in the way someone swims that can cause upper back pain and pain in the side of the rip cage?

I was thinking that I might just be hyper extending muscles when I'm on the reach part of my stroke. I also tend not to rotate my body enough when breathing. Could either of these movents cause pain if done incorrectly?

    Cheers for any replies.
