UPC and PS3 quick question

hi today i have got 30mb upc broadband, when i check speedtest.net im getting 22mb download thats not too shabby, then i connected my ps3 to the upc and in the connection test menu my download is just 12.9mb..how did it half in speed from my laptop to my ps3?



i think this is a playstation forum question as its about the speed to my ps3 and nothing else, sorry if im wrong

Lots of potential causes..

Are you wired or wireless to the PS3?

Even if wired, PS3 isn't using the same servers as the speedtest.net, and thus it could be other reasons that are causing it to drop the download speed - not all necessarily the fault of your box, PS3, UPC or other..

If speedtest is saying 22Mb - I'd believe that one, and not worry about the other.
Other thing to do is check out pingtest.net and check the broadband forums on how to get the router to work optimally...

im wireless, and thanks when i played mw2 80% of my games were 4 bars when on eircom 80% of games were 3 bar so i cant complain:D

in the next few days ill search the forums how to optimise my modem for ps3 gaming cheers

It's a common issue, I've never spent any time looking into how to improve it over a wireless connection and I'm not so sure you'll get much improvement, but sure let us know if you find anything!

Im on UPC 15mb, i never have a problem with connection and my bars are always full

I've never had any issues playing online either, but downloading content through the PSN is much slower than my connection is capable of!

I believe, that if you sign out from the PSN once you start downloading a file/demo you get a speed boost. Never tried it myself though.
