    Lidl 79.99

    Grupy €64.99

Specs below but very similar - no fan, etc. However Lidl get ahead with USB and eSATA while Grupy's Toshiba is USB only.

Toshiba is a better known brand but Lidl's Silvercrest has a 3 year warranty - a much more tangible value IMHO.

you couldn't go wrong with either though at these prices.

    Lidl's Silvercrest

3.5" external hard drive with 1TB capacity
High quality and durable aluminium casing
Passive cooling through the aluminium casing
    Low noise emission
    7200 rpm
    32MB cache
USB 2.0 (1.1 compatible) and eSata connection
Includes: USB cable, eSata cable, power supply and base for vertical set up
    Size: 20 x 11.8 x 4cm
Ultra fast transfer with eSata & USB 2.0

    Grupy (must do better) specs:
    Toshiba
    •1TB USB external hard drive
•Plug and Play setup makes it easier than ever to use!
•Back up your computer with ease.
    •1.1Kg of pure, file-storing awesomeness.
•Designed without a fan, to make it as quiet and meek as possible.
•Comes with glowing blue light, which makes it look a little like a kind and loving HAL.

Having a brand name doesn't always be superior reliability.

I would choose the Lidl one. 3 year warranty, e-sata and the cable.

wonder what brand the HD is inside the silvercrest (and the toshiba, to a lesser extent)..

dont forget, these external 3.5"s generally (all afaik?) come with a power brick - greatly reducing their portability vs 2.5" ext's

The one from Lidl actually costs €79.99.

When I click on the link I provided I still get 69.99 but mystery solved - that's the Northern Ireland price although the website and URL make it look like it's for down here. My fault. Sorry for the confusion.

The Toshiba drive in one case where an Amazon reviewer opened it up had a WD but unless the HD make is specified, externals drives can be a lottery for what brand is inside.
