Does Ireland have the worst government in the whole EU? Ireland is plagued by huge deficits and third world infrastructure. Even though Ireland has received ****loads of money from the EU you are still in a deep hole. Why do you Irish vote for incompetent fools, cheats and liars?

Third world infrastructure? I wish people would stop comparing Ireland to the third world, it really weakens their point.

As for the cheats and liars point, only seven out of the 26 other EU states are less corrupt than us. 20 other countries are miles ahead of us in being cheats and liars.

As for why we voted FF, don't ask me, never voted for them.

Do you accept the fact that parts of the education and healthcare systems (for example) are poorly resourced and poorly managed.

I understand that there are very few, if any, systems that are perfect but they're a hell of a lot better than ours

Time to get deposits out of Irish banks me thinks. This country is going down the tube and the cost of these bonds from the international market is going through the roof

What you say here is fine, no disagreement.
You should say this instead of the third world comparison.

Comparing it to the third world is laughable though. I've 5yr old girls trying to sell me stuff so that they can eat. That's a small bit closer to third world I think.

What are you basing this on? What factors are you judging Ireland on when you say this?

I'm basing it on the fact that our government are brutal. Now I'm not au fait with the workings of the governments of most other european nations so cant pass judgement on them, but I just wonder how bad another nations government would have to be to be worse than ours.

It was the OP who brought up the third world comparison.

It's a coin toss between Ireland and Italy.

    But that's all subjective.

I do it because I like being abused by generalising numbskulls.

I understand that the Irish infrastructure is by no means the worst in the world but isnt any near the best either.

Okay. Only question is, why did you disgaree with a poster who said Italy, Greece, Spain and Romania are worse, when you have admitted you are not au fait their workings? Why disagree with the statement if you have admittedly nothing to back it up with? Seems a bit childish.

The initial statement was made with no back up.

Comparisons like these are entirely open. Besides how are we to know?

Things will happen after the budget. They're will be huge unrest.

What makes the governmenst of these four nations worse than ours?

If I am looking at liars and cheats in government, I would look at the recent corruption by country index. That is one thing. We are much more highly ranked than those four.

Anyway, I did not make the statement.

I honestly think theres a sh!tstorm of public anger brewing & the budget is going to push people to act. Theres only so much even us passive irish sheep can take. Its never too late to show that you've had enough. For the last 10 years we've been governed by the most usueless, lazy, incompetent bunch of suits who have given themselves raise after raise, skimmed money from the boom years & now are looking around at each other saying hey, its not my fault everyone was at it?.
There should be certain key contributers to the recession who should be in prison. What do us irish do? Give them decent pensions & send them packing, that'll teach em. We are donkeys.

Firslty the infrastructure is not third world. Secondly Ireland is an independent nation that is not even a century old yet. Its small, relied heavily on a speculative economy and was done by the recession. Its obviously going to ge hit harder than its bigger more powerful neighbours who will take the impact better. Its a dark period, but things will eventually improve despite all the hysteria and doomsday bollox that has gripped the country for the past two years.

But aside from this, Ireland does have the worst Government in the EU because of years of corruption and nepotism. Hopefully the recession will break the stangle hold that a few families and friends have had on the country for the best part of 70 years.

The Germans are slowly taking economic control of the country anyway, and when they succeed they will be infinitley better than those in charge at the moment. The future is bright, the futute is submission to the Germans which have once again proved to the world that they are the master race.

You do get some funny stories coming out of Belgium in fairness.

    http://onlyinbelgium.eu/

    * Police commissioner fined and jailed for giving his own company road sign contracts.

    * President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy used Council cars and chauffeurs to take his wife,
children and grandchildren to and from Paris’ Charles De Gaulle Airport for holidays.

    * Charleroi shelves plans for a €300 funeral procession tax.

    * Tourism Minister Geert Bourgeois was after €12m was handed out with seeming disregard to good practice rules,
without evaluation, to no measurable standard and through a network of direct personal contacts with the ministry.

    * The Walloon Region is about to undertake an archaeological dig to uncover the treasure of the Knights Templar in Hainaut.
Public Works Minister Benoît Lutgen wants to explore a theory based on a medieval text deciphered by a local historian
that says the treasure is hidden in Ellezelles.
