It's open 24hrs a day. You'll need to swipe in though if you're going in before ~8am or after ~10pm... the swipe thing is on a little silver pole on your left just in front of the downstairs hamilton entrance.

    And rarely works. :D

One of the doors always works. Not the main or pharmacy ones, those temperamental bastards, but the next one down again, towards Lincoln place.

    Works every time!

    Cool will try them, thanks.

The main and entrance near the shop never work. Most of the swipe card readers ive used take 3 or 4 goes to work.

The automatic door at the SU shop can be pulled open with relative ease - I've done it many times when my card didn't work.

A black haired guy with glasses didn't show you that trick did he? I may have been there with you as another bystander...

Door into the genetics dept down towards the dental hospital works every time! It's directly opposite the barricade thing on the road.

The door beside the school of genetics into the East End basement hasn't been working for me over the past week or so. For the first time in about 2 years. I've had no problems with the card swipe for the main hamilton entrance since college started back this year however.

They both work fine for me fine this year.

They never work. Well for me anyway :(
There's always one or two confused students standing outside wondering why their swipe cards won't work

I've done that a few times. I'm always terrified security will see me and go mental though, or that I'll break the door.

It usually takes a few swipes, but I always manage to get in.

There is a gate halfway between the science gallery gate and the vehicle gate opposite pearse st garda station that ive been able to swipe in after midnight before. Not sure whether that was just a couple of flukes or whether its always possible  You could always climb the fence either. My mate made it over the fence near the 15 bus stop opposite Doyles a couple of times. There is a gate there (to facilitate deliveries to the dining hall, i imagine) and it is possible to use the pillars to your advantage. Failing that, you could always try your luck at pulling, then secondly blagging your way past security

Know someone who lives on campus, I guess. Why would you want to get into the Hamilton at 2am anyway?

About halfway down the page, it has the opening hours for all the gates. Sounds like all you need is a college ID?

There are 24hr study rooms so surely students can enter and exit to use those?

You need an ID and also key card/key to get in after midnight. (That is, it's for residents.)

Usually all you need to get in is student card and a key card, if you have a mate on campus they can get as many key cards as they like, only one will work but that's not obvious on the appearance of the card. However, if you present the ID and the card, they might ask you for an apartment number, you can bluff that, but then they might check to see if your name matches your apartment number and then you're up excrement creek without a paddle.

How I used to do it was in a group of people:

Get a genuine resident at the front of your group, pretend you don't know them. Get them to show their key card but not the student card to security when they open the door, then act all flustered while looking for the student card.

Then raise your key card and student card and look exasperated as though you just want to get by this tit who is either stupid enough to have forgotten their id or is trying to scam their way in, security will usually let you by as they're focussed on the person looking for their id.
