I've a rather stupid questions I'm afraid. I usually lecture to 4th level students but tomorrow as part of science week, I've to give a lecture to a couple of hundred students from 3rd - 6th class. I've the lecture written but I want to make it a bit interactive so I've some experiments and activities but I'm not sure if they will be up to them

    - could this age group add say 400 + 300 + 500 = 1200
    - could they read a table and a graph showing percentages of obese kids in ireland today or would it make no sense to them?

    Hi,
Theres a big range in ability level from 3rd up to 6th class but most of them would be well able for that mental addition once the figures are rounded off. Im sure they will love it. As a primary teacher I can tell you that any visitor who saves them from classes for a while will be a hit! They love q and a and giving a show of hands etc to involve them. Break it up with lots of questions so they dont get bored, as the attention span can be short, prticularly with the younger ones.
    Best of luck.
