    Cheers.

I think only Vodafone offer it PAYG at the moment.

If you bought it online (from expansys.ie for instance), could you put your sim (meteor in my case) into it, and keep going on your pay as you go scheme?

If that is possible, i dont really understand meteor's PAYG data price system.
It says you pay 99c max in a day up to 50MB, 2c per KB over that.
Then it says if "you don’t reach the capped Pay As You Go amount of 99c, you just pay for your actual usage – at 2c per kB (€20.48 per MB)."

2c per KB!! You wouldnt want to go over the limit, or all your credit would be gone from 1 or 2 sites!

So by my understanding, if you use between 50KB and 50MB in a day, you pay 99c for the day. If you use under 50KB (which would be hard unless you used nothing at all), you pay less than 99c for the day? Am i reading that right? My head isnt with it today.

beglee, you have it exactly right. A bit mad really, when you consider how far 50KB goes.

Can anyone confirm that this would work?

Yeah - buying sim free from expansys would allow you to continue using your current sim card/plan. That is what I have done with my last number of phones.

This would work, once you purchase the phone sim free, which is how most phones from expansys are sold

Can the Desire HD be unlocked yet?

Only problem is 20 euro a month on meteor only gives you 250MB data for the month.

On 3, for a similar deal, you get 500MB usage (but it takes a 5er out of the 20 euro credit you bought to pay for it, as its an add on)

Both have free texts for a month, but both offers seem to be time limited, and who knows if they'll keep something similar going once these offers end

Havent had a new phone for about 3 years, am sick of waiting, and Meteor seem to be getting about 4 DHDs to share around the whole country any time they get some, so id have to keep waiting and not be guaranteed to get one on bill pay.
Vodafone - not paying 45 a month for their cheapest package to be honest.

Goodluck finding a simfree one at the minute, they are like hen's teeth.

Htc seem to be (for whatever reason) not supplying the demand thats there. I saw this rumour on xda
There now are some sources that say that HTC has problems with getting some parts and that there are production errors. Because of this the delay is going to be until December.

Is that what the HT stands for in HTC? :p

Why would you buy the HTC Desire on expansys for E559 when it's E479 on RTG?

Surely if you were on a different provider you could get it unlocked for less than E80?

On Vodafone, buy €30 credit, get a month of free texts and free data (up to 250MB) on PAYG

On Meteor, buy €20 credit, get a month of free texts and free data (up to 250MB)

On 3, buy €20 credit, get a month of free texts and "free" data (up to 500MB, though it deducts a 5er from your credit for the data)

Plus calls and texts are cheaper on the non-Vodafone networks, so when your month of free stuff runs out, your credit lasts longer before you need a new topup. You'd cover that 80 quid difference in under a year.

Ive no idea about unlocking mind you

I'm undecided between getting my next smartphone on PAYG or bill pay plan. I'm deaf so I'm not bothered about free calls. I'd mostly be using the phone for free texts. internet and apps so with this in mind, would you say meteor bill pay smart lite (SIM only) would be better value compared to the PAYG deals?? 25e per month for 12 months, 1GB data?

I just bought a Desire HD from Vodafone on PAYG. It was €479 and came already network unlocked and without any Vodafone branding or bloatware. In fact, it came in a HTC box rather than a Vodafone one. Working away with my Meteor PAYG SIM for the moment until I figure out if I want to go on a 30 day rolling contract or not.

    Awesome phone!

Vodafone on Eyre Square in Galway. Rang this afternoon and they had three. By the time I got in, there was only one left (which I took!).

Edit: Oh, btw, my phone beeped when my Gmail received a message telling me there was a reply to my post above. Now that's just damned cool! :D

    Green with envy here!
It's crazy to think that there more readily available from Vodafone than from the likes of Clove or Handtec.

Do you have a pre order with clove or handtec by any chance? Stock supposed to be in this week with them. Tbh after waiting this long i'd prefare to wait, a good few of the early units seemed to have issues with the body of the phone, hopefully this has been sorted on the units due.

Just got Desire HD from Vodafone store in Mayo. It was the 1st and only one they had sold. Staff were sound to deal with too. They were as interested as me in it & whether it was unlocked or not.(I'm with 3). Time to play!

I got mine from Vodafone a few weeks ago and it was unlocked in the manner the poster above described, I was using my old O2 sim but I bought a Three sim card along with the Desire HD as I heard on here the first batch at least were unlocked (I was feeling cheeky :P) so I could use the data offer of 4.99 a month that beglee mentions.

When you go into My3 and select the 4.99 data addon though it asks to choose your device from a list, the only phone listed for HTC is the TyTN; some ancient looking WinMo device, the original Desire or Wildfire aren't even on the list, anyone know what the story is here?!

Under the Samsung category it has phones like the i9000 Galaxy S, so no idea why the HTC section is so bare.

Was going to ask them to move my number over tomorrow but might hold off.
