Sony offers VAT back scheme for Xmas

    Monday, November 08 12:39:22
Sony is to offer customers VAT back on nearly 100 items across their range of products in a move to get people buying for Christmas.
The products include digital cameras, e-Readers and Blu-ray players, as well as larger purchases like Bravia TV's and VAIO notebooks.

The campaign is a first for a consumer electronics company in the Ireland and will be available in a wide range of high street retailers such as Sony Centres, Euronics, Expert, Harvey Normans, Powercity, Soundstore and authorised Sony Dealers throughout the country.

For consumers to benefit from the offer, the full price of the item is payable in-store. Shoppers then have until 31 January 2011 to claim the VAT back from Sony on purchases made between 28 October and 24 December 2010.

    Bad news.
Reading the T&C's, they will only give us 17.36%

These are the only eligible Vaio note/net books BTW
    M13M1E VAIO netbook ( €376 on dabs)
    VPCEE3ZOE VAIO (£931 ON prcdirect)
    VPCS13V9E B2B VAIO, (€1500 on dimension4)
    VPCL14S1E/S.CEK, (€2100 on expansys)
    VPCL13M1E/S.CEK HiFi: (€1400 on elara)

    The reason it is 17.36%
    price before vat €100
    VAT 21% +€21
    Total €121
    €21 as % of €121 is 17.36%

If this is anything like the ECO Green promotion Samsung did with their LED TVs then you could be waiting a while for your rebate.

Now I know it's not the exact same scheme but with Samsung all you had to do (supposedly) was to complete a form online, scan in your receipt and you'd have the cheque 28 days later. The amount of phone calls, emails, etc we had to send and the spoofing/lying before we got anywhere was unreal. It took about 8 months in total.

I bought a DSLR from Sony around 18 month ago when they were doing a cashback offer, and I had the cheque within a few weeks. So I wouldn't be letting that affect people's decision.

Just got my letter back after a long wait, my request was rejected as the Sony camera that I bought during the Vat Back period was not included in the range of products on promotion. Extremely disappointed after the effort I went to. Had a feeling Sony would give any excuse not to pay out. Not guna waste my time appealing, probably would only be pennies if I did claim.

Got a letter from Sony yesterday after a long wait to say the TV I bought was not in the VAT return promotion. It will be interesting to hear what the shop will have to say when I call into them.

Lads, were the two of you assured when buying the products that they were covered by the scheme?

in fairness not exactly, but when i asked about the Vat Back offer in expert electrical when i bought it they just said any information i needed was in the leaflet they gave me(the claims form....no product list included). If sony were any way decent they would have obliged me, the camera i bought was top of the range and cos nearly €300. Any1 else having problems?????

I bought an e-reader during the promotion and got a letter from sony about 2 weeks ago saying they were having delays with the whole thing.

Fair enough to send a letter but it gave no indication of how long it would take to sort out. I suppose I will call next week if I hear nothing by then.

I too got the same letter. I received it after i rang them as i was getting impatient and they said a letter explaining that there are delays in the system was on the way out too me. That was fair enough, about a week and a half later i got my claim forms back with the rejection. still kind of bitter but what can ya do!!!!
