    If You Run windows 7 / Vista after plugging in the HDMI you can press Windows Key+P this will bring up an option to choose see pic below

    This Should work if not right click on the desktop and choose screen resolution...you will see display with a drop down box..in this you should see your tv click on it..if you can't see your TV click on detect it should be then. Also if you have trouble with sound right click on the sound icon in the taskbar and go to volume control options then disable the onboard speakers and HDMI will become default if it works straight away then there is no need for this
