Faulty Starter Motor

Hi all, someone might have some insight on my problem so here are the details.
'05 Peugeot 407 HDi ST. Initially I got stranded in Carrickmines SC carpark where the car wouldn't start. Wasn't even trying to start so I figured it was the immobiliser battery in the key. I changed this but same issue. I called the AA and the poor guy (was pi$$ing rain) got it sorted out as he found it blew a fuse for the starter motor. We figured it was the kids DVD screens so removed them (kids extremely pi$$ed off!!) but car running fine ever since. Yesterday, same thing happened (no DVD screens involved) and I checked the fuse - was fine though. Tried starting agian & it went ok. Drove a few miles to McD's and afterwards, car again wouldn't start. Called the AA again - we checked the fuse it was ok. The guy (pi$$ing rain again, btw!!) hammered the sh1t out of the starter motor while I toggled the key - it turned a bit then blew the fuse. I changed it & it started ok.
Anyway to cut a v.boring story short, it seems I have a dodgy connection to/& faulty starter-motor. Anyone know of a decent Auto-sparky in-around South Dublin/North Wicklow that I would be able to get to sort it? Someone who won't try to do me over with a sharp intake of breath,a few tut-tut-tut's and a shaking of the head! All options gratefully received.

Solenoid getting stuck? Check the wire going into the solenoid, make sure there is a good connection. A stuck solenoid will blow fuses. Replace the starter.
Don't know where he is getting the idea from the DVD player!

Maybe remove the starter and get it checked/reconditioned.
I'm guessing yours is the 1.6 hdi......if it is...then the starter
is at the back of the engine and is awkward to get to...

Here is the starter on the 1.6 hdi...:)

Its the 2.0 HDi - I assume it'll be as hard to get at as the 1.6? Typical - nothing has been simple with this car! Bloody window regulator on drivers door failed on Friday too!

Ye its in the same place...not much room in the back of the 2.0 as the turbo is down there also....With this and the window regulator its been a bad week for you then....:(

yeah, was an eventful weekend alright! Interesting thread alright - problem seems very similar - could be identical but it seemed to get sorted when the starter was smacked - did enough to push power through the fuses to blow it (but get it started with a new fuse). I hope a auto-elec will have seen it before though. Will start ringing around this morning to see who can do the job for a nice decent low price!!! Thanks for your insight though, will let you know what happens.
