Instrument Panel in Renault Megane (2003) dead

I have a 2003 megane type II, 1.4L petrol and this morning turned it on and the whole instrument panel isn't working.
The car is fine to drive, indicators, lights etc are all working but I can't see what speed I'm going, the amount of petrol I have, any warning lights, nothing, the whole panel just isn't working.

Anyone any idea what it might be? I'm really hoping it's something small cause I don't have the money for anything major :S

sounds like it may be a multi plug come un plugged....is there an obvious way to take out the panel?

Not that I know of :S i'll look for a manual online and see if I can figure it out. Would it be fairly easy to see when the dash is taken off?

    Hi
Your dash problem is common, Renault UK have acknowledged that there is an unacceptable high failure rate and are offering affected customers a new console for £100 supplied and fitted. Do not attempt to do anything to your console until you take up the problem with you Renault main dealer. If you had to pay full whack to your main dealer it would be around €800.
    See attached post

If you fail to get satisfaction from your dealer ring Head office.

It should be, but it's not fairly easy to take the dash out;)
Check for blown fuses first before taking half a day taking the dash out and three to put it back in.

There's a 20A fuse in the passenger fusebox.
If you need to remove the instrument panel it seems a simple job according to a popular workshop manual:

    1. Disconnect battery.
    2. Remove the shroud above the displays by pulling it upwards.
    3. remove single screw at top centre of the instrument panel.
    4. press retaining catch on each side inwards then lift panel upwards and out.
    5. unplug plug by hinging the locking lever to one side.

OP, did you have a misfire recently in the car, or any of the coils replaced, or any of the spark plugs replaced?

I know for fact that in the UK, Renault issued a TSB to check that the correct spark plugs are fitted (I think they have an internal resistor in them) as incorrect ones create spikes that can affect electronic modules, including the dash.

The only thing I've done to it in the last while was getting the timing belt changed and general services . Only bought it less than a year ago so maybe they were changed before I got it and only kicked up now
