just wondering what other clubs are doing regarding cutting the winners of winter club competitions
in our club the winner of the weekend competition gets cut 3 shots ,runner up 2 shots and category winners 1 shots.
I think its a bit harsh considering qualifying is finished and placing been used

3 shots???? Ridiculous. In a standard comp a mid to high handicapper have to shoot 9 points over CSS to come close to that. A category two player would have to shoot 51+ points to get cut 3 shots. Ridiculous. Are you sure it ain't 0.3, 0.2, 0.1? ... that'd make some sense.

Would it be that the cut just applies to the rest of the winter competitions and not the real handicap. Our club cuts turkey winners 4 shots for the purpose of the rest of the turkey competitions to help spread the winners around, your main playing handicap is not affected

Of course it's a cut for the turkey competitions as puttputt says just to spread things around over period and not have one guy whose minded his handicap all year feeding his neighbours childer as well as his own, lol

Yeah will just be cut for the winter, pretty standard practice, helps to share the Turkeys around :)

While i generally agree with the idea of spreading the prizes around at this time of year, what about the players who win a turkey in the first week of Turkey comps and then are faced with 6 or 7 weeks (as many as 12 or 14 rounds) where it's basically pointless entering due to the fact they've been chopped?

Given a 4 shot cut is just 2 shots for a 9 hole competition it's not too bad. Quite a few players manage a second turkey.

I bagged a turkey a few weeks ago with 30pts for 12 holes. Got cut 2 shots but this only applies to the winter card/comp. Main handicap remains static until new season kicks in.
Think its fair enough as it gives others a chance to win a turkey. I can enter and play as many times as I like before Xmas but will face similar cuts if I ever manage to get lucky a second time!!
