    Have a go at it yourself first and let us know what you get. Is [latex] i = \sqrt(-1) [/latex] and are [latex] a [/latex] and [latex] l [/latex] real numbers?

    It is unrealistic ( & against the thread charter) to expect us to do your homework for you! You need to try it yourself & if stuck I am sure there are people who can advise you here.

    I have just worked this out myself & suggest you proceed along the following lines:

    - multiply out the equation
    - equate the real & imaginary parts
    - you ought to have a simultaneous equation of the form

    a^2 - L^2 = some number

    and

    a+3L = some number


    then substitute so you get a quadratic in either a or L

    Then solve the quadratic.

    All in all a bit more than half a page.
