    Hi folks.
OK my car has been vandalised several times over the past 3 months, keyed 2 panels, broken window and someone jumped on the bonnet. I am seriously hacked off at this stage. So, I've decided to install some sort of video surveillance.

Car is parked to the front of the house on a public road, (no choice in this) It's about 6M from the front wall of the house as there a small garden to the front.

I was thinking of a camera that would have the following capabilities:
    • Weather Proof - it's going to be mounted outside
    • Night Vision
    • Decent video resolution - so If it captures someone I might be able to capture a decent face shot.
    • Fairly Wide Angle
    • Motion detection - not vital as there are trees and it's a public road, so it will be triggered a lot anyway, mind you, the road is pretty quiet at night.
    • Video Recording - I'd want to be able to monitor at least a night's footage
    • Remote access - I would like to be able to monitor both live and recorded video via the internet.
    • Apple Mac Compatible - I use Macs so i'd need it to be compatible. If the remote monitoring is done via a web interface, this shouldn't be an issue unless they use something silly like activeX

So far I have come up with the following after a while googling this:

    http://www.y-cam.com/y-cam-bullet-black
    or
    http://www.logitech.com/en-us/webcam-communications/video-security-systems/master-systems/devices/7252

    Also came across this:
    http://www.vivotek.com/products/model.php?network_camera=ip8332

the logitech system is PC only for some features. but the cam has a higher resolution.

I'm hoping someone on here might have some experience with this and help me with a solution.

    Thanks a mil
    Grif

I use securityspy on my imac, with axis cameras. It does all thr things you want, and is pretty cheap for 1 or 2 cameras license. I only do indoor monitoring, but you can work it easily with outdoor cameras.

I needed a hand to set up the remote viewing, but I'm pretty stupid when it comes to networking!! :)

Pm me if you want some more info!

    I use this
    http://www.avermedia.com/AVerDiGi/Product/Detail.aspx?id=131
Easy set up. I think it works with Mac. Have a look at the manual.
I consists of card('s) in the PCI slots of your PC with the cameras attached.
It streams to the net via a free DNYDNS account with a dynamic ip.
It has a great iphone app to view cams anywhere. Even works on Edge.
It has email motion detection alerts and other stuff.
    Can stream IP cameras too.
    Excellent system.

    Heya Grif

just a few questions, have you got good street lighting infront of your house? cause to be honest I.R or night vision cameras arent the best for getting faces by night without some sort of lighting and if your looking for a long term solution id advise you to go for a stand alone dvr and not a pc based system, not that pc based systems are bad, but im just old fashioned, a pc should be a pc and a dvr should be a dvr and the fact that if your pc crashes so does your dvr and visa versa if yea get me.
as for recording time, any dvr your looking at buying today should be a H.264 dvr, with minimum 250g hard drive, remote access is pretty much standard now on dvrs,

Hi Chamac, thanks for the link, looks interesting.

Hi stepbystep, Missed your reply sorry about delay. Thanks.
Front of house is reasonably well light, couple of street lights nearby.I get your point about the dvr solution and agree with you yea.

    Any recommendations?

RF concepts stock avermedia and he has a good selection of cameras there.
look out for a day/night camera that has >520 lines and a recorder that can record at D1 for 25 - 50fps
