The viability of analysing coastal sites

Just a random question thrown out there, given a) that we are in an interglacial period, so the coastline has receded quite a bit in the last few thousand years, and b) settlements tend to cluster around coastal areas, are there any efforts or indeed even means to survey shallow water sites for archaeological sites in Ireland? It seems likely to me that there are probably quite a few finds of interest which are currently submerged. I know they are doing something similar in the Aegean, but environmental conditions are different here.

What would we need to start conducting widespread surveys, in terms of equipment and expertise, and would it be worth the effort?
