    Hey Guys.

Joncol looks the bet of the season at @ 6/1. For me Golden Silver and Big Zeb don't seem to like the soft ground.

    Good luck.

I hope they are wrong, just put my last few bob on him:eek:

I emptied my other account yesterday into a bet on Kalahari King, then realised it was a handicap and then heard he was not fully fit:mad:

I hope it's not three bad smashes in a row after Get Me Out Of Here being held last weekend

Was never even put in the race.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I don't think going left handed suits Joncol, I seem to remember him jumping right before (I think the Hennessy). I know he won that race but Cooldine has gone backwards in my opinion since the RSA.

I won't be backing him left handed again.

Good to see Big Zeb having decent work out

True enough. Think I will keep my powder dry until the Hennessy so everything should be fit by then.

Sorry I didnt see this thread before the race. A fully fit Joncol wouldn't beat Big Zeb over 2m on any course on any ground at any time of the year. He will be better next time round, but I think he is an overrated animal. Grand National horse more than anything for me. Not sure where the idea that Big Zeb and Golden Silver wouldnt act on the ground came from. Golden Silver is one of the few horses I'd trust to run their race in an absolute bog.

I'm sure I read it was heavy at Navan today. I don't know where I saw that but I'm sure I did

I backed Golden Silver accordingly, of course...

Yeah. Raced that way as well. Think he blew up before plugging on. Game horse, just lacking the class of the winner. Both horses will come on a fair bit for the race. Carthalawn may have been readied for this in the hope to catch the other two half-cocked. Thought it was going to pay off as well.

I'm a big fan of Joncol and Golden Silver. Didn't even know they were racing today. Wouldn't back Joncol over 2 miles though.

I knew it was shorter than Joncol normally ran or had the pace to but I though they might have tried to make the running to try stretch the other 2.

    Before today:

Golden Silver had three runs on soft and did not win or place on it.
Big Zeb had 3 runs and one place on soft

Joncol has won over 2m 2 but I would only back him on soft or worse and I am now putting a line through him going left handed.

I think he's better over at least 2 and a half. Jumping left wouldn't have helped, didn't see the race today though, musn't have ever been in it judging by the distance he was beat.

Golden Silver has won a grade 1 on good ground as well as SIX wins on heavy ground (2 grade 1s) It would be very very very unusual for a horse that copes so well on heavy not to cope with soft ground. Whatever the reasons for the defeat, ground wasnt the key factor.

Big Zeb has two wins on good ground, but has four races on heavy. He travels and jumps so well that good ground inconveniences him less than most other NH horses. I can see some logic in thinking that heavy ground, first time out may be the time to catch him off guard, but all ground come alike to him.

He was losing the guts of 4 lengths at every fence, he started running right coming to them and then jumping even further right over them.

If I was on him I would keep him inside another horse and worse case he bumps the other horse.

Sorry I meant to say that jumping right wouldn't have helped.

To be honest I have a form programme and I just requested it output previous history on soft, I would have been reluctant to back Joncol if I saw that.

The main point here is you were taking a slow staying chaser to beat the 2m Champion Chaser over the minimum trip.

I'm not being unkind to Joncol there btw, it's exactly what he (and most big staying chasers) are

    Thanks for the lesson

    I outlined my reasoning above.
