    Hey guys,

Being searching for a while now and might have the opportunity to buy my next car, lovely 1 owner well cared for 08 320d SE with full BMWSH and only 30k miles. It is a private sale and will not be available until January so that gives me a bit of time to try and sell my current car.

Have been looking at carzone and donedeal for similar cars but as expected prices vary from cheap (high mileage, untidy examples) to candidates for the dreamer of the year thread. Anyway as I said I have a bit of time on my hands so don't need it shifted that quickly but at the same time want to price it realistically.

Has anyone any idea what the below cars are fetching privately these days:

    2006 Volvo S40 1.6d SE
    136k km or 84k miles
    Metallic Silver,
    2 owners (including me),
    NCT: Feb 2012,
    Tax: Feb 2011.
Full main dealer service history (Volvo and others) with receipts.
Full dark grey leather interior, cruise control, dual zone climate control, Volvo Premium sound system incl. 6 cd changer, traction control, 17" alloy wheels, rain sensing wipers, MFSW, electric windows allround.

Car is in very good condition for it's age and mileage with a few front stone chips and one small ding in the rear passenger door from where a stone hit it.

Any ideas what I should look for it?

DPF issues aside, has it been a good ownership experience for you, Bazz?

Hand on my heart, no not really. Good few repair bills over the two years I've owned it, some were wear and tear ie replaced wishbones, tie rods, etc but also some niggly things and the biggest thing was the DPF which I know could have happened to any diesel car but at the same time maintenance has been expensive whether it be down to bad luck or not.

Just this evening the car has a small whine sound out of it when started and at low revs which to me sounds like some sort of hose pipe might have a hole in it and need to be replaced. It must know I'm looking to part with it. Hopefully the next owner will have better luck with it than me.

myself and the missus are actually looking for this exact model at the moment ...is there a lot of niggles with these models?i had an s60 2.0ltr turbo best car i ever had if a little thirsty and had no trouble at all with it was also looking at v50'.
    also what is DPF?

DPF = Diesel Particular Filter. This acts like a catalytic converter and burns all the nasty particals that a diesel engine emits. All new diesels have DPFs now to keep emmissions low and make them Euro V compliant. The engine needs to be driven at greater than 1.5 x 10000 rpm for over 10 mins for the particals to be totally burnt away. Short trips doesn't allow this and the sut builds up blocking the filter. Thanks to the previous owner of my car a new DPF cost me €900.

Regarding reliability, well I think I have been unlucky and some of my repair bills have been wear and tear. I've had no problems with electrics, etc and the cars are well put together.

Sorry to hear. I've little or no experience of the Ford based models (post S40/V50) but that said, it sounds like you were unlucky.

    Just an update folks.

Just sold the car this evening, got €9k for it. I'm happy and I think it is going to a good home.

Now the search is stepped up for my next motor. :D
