Disappearing Ext HDD on OS 10.5

    Hi Folks,

    I have an external HDD (1Tb Medion) that I have hooked up to numerous windows and linux machines and have used it no problem. However when I connect it to OSX it will initally read it, it will add it to finder and it will be visible in Disk Utility. Then it seems that the HDD just switches itself off, it disappears from Disk Utility and finder with an error message about not unmounting it properly.

    This is not a hardware issue as Ive mentioned I have tried this on over a half a dozen different PC's running windows/linux and it works perfectly fine with all of them. I have read some posts online and this seems to be a common problem but the solutions are wide and varied. I would appreciate any help from someone whos experienced this or something similar.

    You need to re-format it.
