Trying to decide between Biotechnology OR Cell Biology & Genetics?!
From people who have done any of these courses, I know Cell Biology is 40 more points than Biotech. but with Biotech. you have the teaching option...
But which do you think is better in terms of everything..
is there any maths in these courses?
    Which is more "challenging"?
What's the male/female ratio in both courses?
Apart from teaching, which offers the better careers?
    Anything else!
    Thanks

just saying... you should have edited your last thread.. or deleted it when starting this one.

It would be hard to find people who can compare as I doubt anyone has done both. You should research them thoroughly on the website, see what subjects are different etc...

I'm doing biotech first year at the moment.

All 1st years doing science are pretty much stuck together into doing a general science year so that by the time you are in 2nd year everyone is up to scratch in bio, chem, physics and maths.

There's a general maths module all science students take in first year.

In my biotech class its around 30 students half female and male

I really won't know what biotech is really like until 2nd year as the course begins to get biotech specific same with GCB.

    Third year biotech here.
is there any maths in these courses?
Both courses have straight maths modules in the first two years.
GCBs no not need to learn or use this maths again after this.
BTs do not take any more straight maths modules, but use some of the basic maths in later engineering modules in 2nd, 3rd and 4th year.
What's the male/female ratio in both courses?
about 50:50 in both. at least in my year.
    Which is more "challenging"?
That depends on how your mind works. GCBs have to memorize a huge volume of information. BTs have to learn less, but their work is more applied and mathematical.
Apart from teaching, which offers the better careers?
BTs are generally regarded as the more employable, because the course in DCU is so diversified that you could go into any field you wanted to, from engineering to lab research, so more jobs would be open to you.
Genetics is quite a specialized, academic field so the job oppertunities in this country would necessarily be a little more limited.
