Alrite, this is mainly for the ps3 guys but sure i dont see a problem with the xbox boys jumping on too.

For those that dont know what IRC is, its a chat program, sort of like the built in one on the ps3, only handier. A few of us have were using it yesterday while playing, its dead handy.

    How to set it up:

-Download the mIRC client from http://www.mirc.com/get.html

-Once installed you will fill in the user name etc

-Then go to server and select quakenet random

-Lastly go to Options > Perform and type in the following

/join #boards.ie - This will save you from having to type it in each time you open up mIRC

Once you done with that click ok and click the wee lightning connect button at the top.

If you want to make a new chatroom all you have to do is type "/join #chatroomname" and you'll create it, there will be no Q bot tho, unless you register one (you need 20 odd people in the room first) so when you leave someone else in the room will get admin rights.

Ok, just another wee thing thats handy.

If you right click the boards.ie chatroom on the left and turn the flashing option on, the icon in the deskbar will flash if someone posts a new msg. Theres also a speech thing.... i found it hilarious tbh...

Why would you need IRC when playing?

Faster than typing on the ps, plus the majority of people at times don't have mics.

I'll add to that too . Helping your team on SnD. . :D
No but seriously it's handier than text chat if you don't have a mic / want to use a mic

There's a very handy IRC client add-on for Firefox called Chatzilla. It's brilliant and very useful for those who don't want to download a new program. :)

I'd recommend password protecting the room though and sending it around to the players by PM. That way you keep out anyone who knows about the room and is playing against you :)

Lads, it appears as though you are using the old boards.ie IRC room and not your own, not cool at all.

You'd be better off creating your own room so you can password protect it. the Boards.ie alliance in Cybernations uses IRC all the time and we have several password protected rooms.

There's loads of guides online and it's simple enough to do. Haven't done it in a while myself so can't really advise any more than that.

yeah I was talking to a lad in the boards.ie chat room and I was thinking we were being a bit presumptuous in thinking we could just waltz in and use it. It'd be better off in the long run for us to set up our own.

Oh yeah, just remember too that any IRC room you use is totally unrelated to boards.ie so please don't bring any disputes from there, here. I know you guys wouldn't even think of doing that but it has happened in the past and caused a few problems :)

Won't be on BO tonight, but I'll go on for the banter ;)

ETI : Won't let me log in, connection timed out.
I'm on college internet (with pass/username to go online), any idea how to fix it?
