Raised veg. bed - compost or topsoil ?

    Hi...
    i've just completed building and digging out the bottom of my vegetable raised beds. i need to fill them in now. should i fill with top soil or with a compost ?
    i can buy the compost in bulk from local recycle centre.

    bty... i estimate i'll need a half ton of either compost or topsoil ?

    A mixture, I would on the whole use topsoil if I could choose only one. I think root veg would not be very happy in just compost.
